Wayne Taylor (born July 15, 1956 in Port Elizabeth ) is a former South African racing driver who is also a US citizen.

Career

Wayne Taylor achieved his successes in motorsport mainly with sports cars , his use in the monoposto remained sparse. Before he came to Europe in 1986, however, he won the overall ranking of the South African Formula Atlantic Championship . In 1987 he drove his first races in the sports car world championship for Kremer Racing and made his debut in the Le Mans 24-hour race . Together with his compatriot George Fouché and the Austrian Franz Konrad , who drives with a German license , he placed the Kremer- Porsche 962 in fourth place in the overall ranking.

The South African achieved his greatest successes in the United States. In 1990 he competed in the IMSA GTP series for the first time . In 1994 he won the overall ranking of the successor series - the IMSA World Sports Car Championship. This year he celebrated nine race victories on a Kudzu DG-3 and secured the championship. Two years later became a master again. Twice, in 1996 and 2005 , he won the Daytona 24-hour race and the Sebring 12-hour race in 1996 .

From 2011 Taylor drove in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series , whose overall classification he won in 2005. Since the mid-2000s, he has also been the team boss in this racing series.

Private

Wayne Taylor lives in Altamonte Springs , is married and has two sons. Ricky and Jordan Taylor are also racing drivers.
