Scott Sharp (born February 14, 1968 in Norwalk ) is an American car racing driver and racing team owner.

Racing career

Sports car racing

Scott Sharp began his career - like so many racing drivers before and after him - in karting . He received his first kart at the age of eight and by the end of this phase of his career had won 50 races in 72 starts. Unlike most of his colleagues who switched to the monopostos , Sharp began sports car racing after this phase .

In 1986 he won the overall classification in the GT2 class of the SCCA National Championship , and in 1987 the GT1 final classification of this series: a success that he was able to repeat in 1988. After an unsuccessful year in the IMSA GTP series in 1990 , he switched to the Trans-Am series in 1991 , the overall ranking of which he won on a Chevrolet Camaro . In 1992 he contested his first race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and achieved his fifth title in a sports car series with victory in the final ranking of the Trans-Am series in 1993 .

1996 , when he was already Monopostorennen went, he won together with Wayne Taylor and Jim Pace , the 24 Hours of Daytona . In the same year he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . Even during his intensive monoposto time, Sharp drove sporadically sports car races. In 2002 he was second overall in Daytona and in 2003 fifth.

When he more or less ended monoposto racing at the end of the 2007 racing season, he returned to sports cars. For Highcroft Racing , he competed in the American Le Mans Series in 2008 . His partner in the Acura ARX-01b was David Brabham . Behind Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas in the Penske Racing - Porsche RS Spyder , the duo finished the season in the LMP2 class in second place overall. In 2008 he also returned to the Sebring 12 Hours , where he made his debut in 1991 . Sharp and Brabham were also involved in the ALMS for Highcroft Racing in 2009 and won the overall championship standings with three victories this season.

Racing team owner

2010 Scott Sharp founded with Ed Brown Extreme Speed Motorsports , Brown is Chief Executive Officer of drinks - Group Tequila Patron. The company actively supported the team's racing activities from the start. Sharp was also the team's driver and continued to be successful in the ALMS and its successor, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship . Monopostosport

Without any significant experience with racing cars with free wheels, he started racing in the Indy Racing League in 1996 and became champion. He had to share the title with Buzz Calkins , who was tied on points . In 1998 he moved to Kelley Racing . During the collaboration, which lasted until 2004 , he won eight championship races in the Indy Racing League and the IndyCar Series . He also managed to start from pole position four times , including the Indianapolis 500 in 2001 . In 1998 he finished fourth in the championship with two victories this season behind Kenny Bräck , Davey Hamilton and Tony Stewart and in 2001 overall third behind Sam Hornish junior and Buddy Lazier .

Until the end of 2007, Sharp stayed in the IndyCar Series and set some records. From his debut race he competed in 138 events in a row. In 147 starts he was rated 110 times. He reached the points 82 times and won at least one championship run for seven seasons in a row.

Between 1994 and 2009 he competed 14 times in the Indianapolis 500 mile race . He achieved his best placement in 2007 when he came in sixth.
