Davey Hamilton
Davey Hamilton (born June 13, 1962 in Nampa , Idaho ) is a retired American racing driver . 1997 and 1998 he was runner-up in the Indy Racing League . He is the father of racing car driver Davey Hamilton Jr.
Career
Before Hamilton entered the Indy Racing League (IRL), he was active in various US motorsport series and failed in qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 in 1993 and 1995 . In 1996 he made his debut in the Indy Racing League and finished ninth overall. In 1997 Hamilton reached three third places. At the end of the season he lost the championship with 272 to 278 points just against Tony Stewart and was runner-up. In 1998 he achieved his best placement in the IRL with a second place. This season he managed to leave Stewart, who finished the season third, behind, but he had to admit defeat to Kenny Bräck and won the runner-up again.
In 1999 Hamilton even achieved two second places, but in the overall standings it was only enough for fourth place. In his fifth season in the IRL, he could no longer build on the successes from previous years and ended the season in 23rd place overall. This season was the last season that Hamilton played in full. In 2001 he started the season again in the IRL and started in five races. In the fifth race at Texas Motor Speedway , Hamilton had a serious accident and had to undergo operations on his legs and feet 21 times in the following two years. After a rehabilitation phase in which Hamilton sat in a wheelchair for a year, the racing driver ended his career.
In 2007 , at the age of 44, Hamilton made his comeback in the IRL, which has now been renamed the IndyCar Series , and competed exclusively in the Indianapolis 500. On his return he immediately finished ninth. In the overall ranking he achieved 26th place with this result. In 2008 he repeated the start at the Indianapolis 500 and this year came 14th across the finish line. In the overall standings he was 36. In 2009 , he entered the Indianapolis 500 for the third time. He did not finish in this race and finished 40th in the overall standings.
In 2010 , Hamilton qualified again for the Indianapolis 500 and entered another race for the first time since 2001. At the end of the season he finished 36th overall. In 2011 , Hamilton took part in several oval races in the IndyCar Series for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing . At the end of the season he was 41st overall.
