Dreyer & Reinbold Racing
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is a team of the IndyCar Series .
The team, founded in 2000, is owned by former driver Robbie Buhl and car dealer Dennis Reinbold. The team was never at the very top of the series; Robbie Buhl himself achieved the only race win in the very first race. His teammates changed in the early days, among them Sarah Fisher , who has since founded her own team. Before the 2006 season, the team was even close to being closed due to a lack of sponsorship funds.
In the 2008 season Dreyer & Reinbold Racing relied on the one hand on the former Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice and on the other hand on Townsend Bell and Milka Duno , who took turns in a second car. The performance of the Venezuelan racing amazon in particular was often not convincing, as it was unable to achieve a top 10 result in ten races. Bell, on the other hand, did this three times, although he only contested seven races. For the 2009 season , Mike Conway was hired as a full-time pilot, who was able to take a surprising third place in the race in Sonoma . Two other vehicles were driven by various drivers this season, although the cars were not used for the entire season.
The following two years were overshadowed by serious accidents involving DRR drivers. Justin Wilson joined his compatriot Conway as a full-time pilot in 2010 , with Conway having a serious accident on the penultimate lap of the Indianapolis 500 and being out for the rest of the season. He was replaced by various drivers, and the team used two more cars in individual races. In the following season it caught Wilson, who had an accident in training in Mid-Ohio and also had to sit out the rest of the season. As the second driver in the 2011 season, DRR relied on Ana Beatriz , who also had to be replaced for one race due to an injury, but did not impress in the other races either. Thus, none of the team's drivers made it into the top 20 of the final accounts this season.
The 2012 season marked a change in the IndyCars. With a new standard chassis and the entry of Chevrolet and Lotus as additional engine manufacturers, the series was put on a new technical basis. At the beginning of the season, Dreyer & Reinbold relied on Lotus as the engine supplier for the only chassis used, which was piloted by the Spaniard Oriol Servià . But from the first race of the season, the engine proved to be clearly inferior to the competition from Honda and Chevrolet. Like many other teams, DRR changed suppliers before the season highlight in Indianapolis so as not to be without a chance there. The team formed a strategic partnership with Panther Racing , which had a second engine contract with Chevrolet since the beginning of the season, but did not use it. The resulting partnership continues to this day. With the new engine in the rear, Servià was able to take fourth place in the Indy 500 and also achieve three more top five placements in the course of the rest of the season.
