Sarah Fisher
Sarah Fisher (born October 4, 1980 in Columbus , Ohio ) is a former American racing driver .
Career
Fisher began her motorsport career in 1986 in Midgets and switched to karting in 1988 , where she was active until 1994. Then she went to 1998 Sprint Cars and 1999 again Midgets .
Fisher then made her debut in this championship in October 1999 at the season finale of the Indy Racing League . Starting for the Pelfrey team , she couldn't finish her first race. In 2000 she moved to Walker Racing and stayed in the IRL. She started for the first time at the Indy 500 , for which she was the third woman to qualify. She came into the public eye while racing at Kentucky Speedway . She led the race, becoming the youngest person to lead an IRL race. She finished the race in third place and was the first woman to achieve a podium finish in the IRL. In the overall ranking she finished 18th.
During the 2001 season , Fisher stayed with Walker Racing. In the second race on the Homestead-Miami Speedway she was behind Sam Hornish jr. Second and achieved the best placement of a female racer in the IRL up to that point. Since she could not build on her initial success in the further course of the season, she finished 19th overall at the end of the season. In the following season , she initially received no cockpit, as Walker Racing had switched to the CART series. For the fourth race she received a cockpit from Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and came fourth straight away. Overall, she started ten out of 15 races and improved to 18th place in the overall standings. When the US Grand Prix she was allowed between training a McLaren - one Formula driving -Auto. In 2003 , Fisher stayed with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in the championship, which has now been renamed the IndyCar Series . Although she only achieved eighth place as the best placement, but since she played the entire season, she finished 18th overall at the end of the season.
In 2004 , Fisher couldn't pay for an IndyCar cockpit. Therefore she started for Kelley Racing only in the Indy 500 and finished 21st in the overall standings she finished 31st place. She also took part in a race in the NASCAR West Series . In 2005 she stayed in the NASCAR West Series and was twelfth in the drivers' standings as the best newcomer. In 2006 Fisher decided not to continue her NASCAR engagement, but to return to the IndyCar Series. However, she did not find a cockpit at first and later competed for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in two IndyCar races. In the overall standings she was 25th. In 2007 she received a cockpit from Dreyer & Reinbold Racing for the entire season and for the first time also drove on non-oval tracks. She achieved two placings among the top ten drivers and at the end of the season she finished 17th overall, well behind her team-mate Buddy Rice , who was ninth. The 2007 season was Fisher's most successful season to date.
In 2008 Fisher decided to compete in the IndyCar Series with his own team, Sarah Fisher Racing . She started in three races, including the Indy 500, and finished 34th in the overall standings. In 2009 she took part in six races of the IndyCar Series. She never made it into the top ten pilots and finished 25th overall at the end of the season. In 2010 she competed in all US IndyCar oval races. For the first time she got a teammate with Jay Howard and used Graham Rahal as team boss in some races. At the end of the season she finished 26th overall.
After the end of the 2010 season, Fisher announced the end of her active motor racing career.
Personal
Fisher has been married to Andy O'Gara since September 16, 2007. O'Gara was a mechanic in her racing team in 2002. Together with her husband and his father John O'Gara, she has been running the Sarah Fisher Racing team since 2008 .
On September 13, 2011, Fisher had a daughter.
