Benjamin "Ben" Hanley (born January 22, 1985 in Manchester ) is a British automobile racing driver .

Career

Until 2005 Hanley was active in karting and was able to win several championship titles. In 2004 he was close to winning the world championship, but a failure in the last race threw him back to sixth place. In 2005 Hanley drove not only kart races but also races in the Italian Formula Renault .

In 2006 Hanley was accepted into the Renault F1 youth team. He drove for the Cram Competition team in Formula Renault 3.5 and won one of the two races in Misano . In the overall ranking he finished 8th. In the following season, Hanley switched to the Prema Powerteam. With two wins in Magny-Cours and Barcelona and four podium places, he was runner-up in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2007.

In 2008 Hanley was initially committed to the GP2 series alongside Vitali Petrow from Campos Grand Prix . From the second race weekend in the GP2 Asia series , which took place before the regular season , he also competed for the Campos Grand Prix and was able to achieve a podium place in the race on the Indonesian Sentul International Circuit . In the overall ranking of the Asia series he reached 15th place.

In the regular season, Hanley only scored a point in the sprint race on the Turkish Istanbul Park Circuit . Shortly before the fourth race weekend in Magny-Cours, he was dismissed from Campos Grand Prix and replaced by Lucas di Grassi . But he represented Davide Valsecchi from Team Durango at the race in France. In the overall standings, Hanley finished 24th with one point. In 2009 he took part in three of the six Euroseries 3000 weekends. He achieved a victory at the weekend in Magny-Cours and a third place. In 2010 he started in the Superleague Formula on four weekends . Here, too, he celebrated a success with a victory on the Ordos International Circuit .

Hanley has been taking part in motorsport races again since 2016. With a few exceptions, he has only competed for the DragonSpeed team since then . From 2016 to 2019 he started in the LMP2 category of the European Le Mans Series . When DragonSpeed ​​entered the LMP1 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship in the 2018/19 season , he also started there. In 2019 in the IndyCar Series , Hanley also drove the car in the team's three races.
