Josef Waldhäuser (* 1896 , † 1965 ) was a German post office worker and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary and advanced training school in Nuremberg , Waldhäuser completed an apprenticeship as a galvanizer and took part in the First World War as a soldier in 1914/15 . He entered the service of the Deutsche Reichspost in 1919 , was involved in trade unions and was section head of the postal union for twelve years. After the National Socialists came to power, he was forced into retirement. From 1943 to 1945 he was interned in the Dachau concentration camp .

After the end of the war, Waldhäuser rejoined the postal service. He was initially postal secretary, participated in the establishment of the postal union in Nuremberg and acted as chairman of the committee of five at the Reich Postal Directorate Nuremberg. In January 1947 he was appointed Oberpostrat.

Waldhäuser joined the SPD during the Weimar Republic . From February 14 to December 15, 1946, he was State Secretary in the State Ministry of Transport in the government of the Free State of Bavaria led by Prime Minister Wilhelm Hoegner . The postal system fell into his area of ​​responsibility.
