Zach Veach
Zach Veach (born December 9, 1994 in Stockdale , Ohio ) is an American racing driver . He competed in the Indy Lights from 2013 to 2016 . He has been driving for Andretti Autosport in the IndyCar Series since 2018 .
Career
Veach started a motorsport career in karting in 2008 . In 2010 he switched to formula racing . It was originally planned to start in the Atlantic Championship , but the series will stop operating before the start of the season. Instead, Veach got into the championship with Andretti Autosport for the second event of the US F2000 National Championship . With a second place and three podium finishes, he finished the season in fifth place in the drivers' standings, while his team-mate Sage Karam dominated the championship. In 2011 he first took part in the winter series of the US F2000 National Championship for Andretti Autosport and won it with two wins in five races. He then competed in the regular championship. In this he won the season opener and finished the season in fourth place. Internally, he was defeated by his teammate Spencer Pigot , who finished second. In addition, Veach debuted in 2011 with Andretti Autosport in the Star Mazda Series. He took part in two races as a guest starter and came third once.
At the beginning of 2012, Veach first won the Star Mazda Series winter series. He then went to Andretti Autosport as a regular driver in this series. With a second place as the best result, he reached tenth place overall, while his teammate Karam was third overall. In 2013 , Veach received an Indy Lights cockpit at Andretti Autosport. With a third place he was once on the podium. While his team-mate Carlos Muñoz finished third with four wins, Veach finished the season in seventh place in the drivers' standings. In 2014 Veach stayed with Andretti Autosport in the Indy Lights. He won his first race at the season opener. Two more victories followed in the further course of the season. Veach finished third in the drivers' standings, one position ahead of teammate Matthew Brabham .
In 2015 Veach was without permanent involvement in motorsport. He took part in a race in the United SportsCar Championship (USCC). In 2016 , Veach returned to the Indy Lights as a full-time pilot. He received a cockpit at Belardi Auto Racing . He won at Elkhart Lake , Watkins Glen and Monterey . He finished the season in fourth place overall.
He drove his first IndyCar race in Alabama in 2017 as a replacement for the injured JR Hildebrand . In 2017 he also took part in the Indy 500. He started for AJ Foyt and had to retire after 155 laps. Later that year it was announced that he had signed a three-year deal with Andretti Autosport. In 2018 he was 15th and in 2019 he was 18th in the final ranking.
