Jack Harvey (born April 15, 1993 in Bassingham , Lincolnshire , England ) is a British racing driver . He won the British Formula 3 Championship in 2012 . He started in the Indy Lights in 2014 and 2015 and finished second overall in both years. Since 2017 he has participated in individual races of the IndyCar Series with Meyer Shank Racing .

Career

Like most motorsport enthusiasts , Harvey began his career in karting , where he was active from 2002 to 2008. Among other things, he won the FIA-KF3 European Championship in 2007 and was champion of the FIA-KF2 Asia-Pacific Championship in 2008 . In 2009 he switched to the single-seater racing and entered the European Formula BMW for Fortec Motorsport on. He won a race and finished seventh in the championship, the second best newcomer behind Robin Frijns . In 2010 he stayed with Fortec Motorsport and contested his second season in the European Formula BMW. Harvey took the lead in the drivers' championship at the first race of the season and held it until the last race weekend, when he lost the lead to Frijns and ultimately became runner-up with seven wins.

In 2011 Harvey moved to Carlin in the British Formula 3 Championship . He won a race and ended the season as the worst driver on his team in ninth place in the drivers' standings. In 2012 he played his second season in British Formula 3 for Carlin. He managed to win in the first race. With a total of seven races won, Harvey decided the championship ahead of his teammate Jazeman Jaafar . He prevailed against Jaafar with 319 to 306 points.

In 2013 Harvey competed in the GP3 series for ART Grand Prix , the championship team of the previous season. He scored his first victory in the main race at the Silverstone Circuit . He achieved another victory in the sprint race in Monza . Harvey was subject to Facu Regalía and Conor Daly within the team and was fifth overall with 114 points.

In 2014 Harvey decided to move to North America. He received a place at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in the Indy Lights . Already in his debut race he reached a podium with a third place. Harvey finished in the top five in every race and was on the podium ten times in 14 races. He won four of the last five races. At the end of the season he was tied with the champion Gabby Chaves . Since both had achieved the same number of wins, the second places decided on the title. Here Harvey Chaves lost 1 to 5. Harvey was the best newcomer to the Indy Lights as the best driver of his racing team. In 2015 , Harvey stayed with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in Indy Lights. He won a street course race in Indianapolis as well as the Freedom 100 held there on the oval . He also came second six times. With 330 to 357 points, he lost to Spencer Pigot at the end of the season and was again second overall. Harvey also completed IndyCar test drives for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports .

Harvey was promoted by the Formula 1 team McLaren for several years .
