Felix Rosenqvist (born November 7, 1991 in Värnamo ) is a Swedish racing driver . He won the Formula 3 Masters in 2011 and 2013 and the Macau Grand Prix in 2014 and 2015 . From 2012 to 2015 he competed in the European Formula 3 championship . In 2015 he won the European Championship. From 2016 to 2018 he competed in the FIA Formula E championship . He has been competing in the IndyCar Series since 2019 .
Career
Rosenqvist began his motorsport career in karting in 2004 and was active in this sport until 2006. In 2007 he made his debut in formula racing in the Asian Formula Renault Challenge. Rosenqvist won a race and finished the season in fourth place overall. He also took part in two races of the northern European Formula Renault. In 2008 he switched to Formula Asia 2.0 . He won ten out of 13 races and won the championship title. In addition, he started in a total of six other races in the Asian Formula Renault Challenge and in the Italian Formula Renault. He won two races in the Asian Formula Renault Challenge.
In 2009 Rosenqvist returned to Europe and won the championship titles of the Swedish Formula Renault and the NEZ Formula Renault. He also took part in a Formula Palmer Audi race weekend and won two out of three races. In addition, he gained experience outside of formula racing and competed as a guest starter in two races in the German Seat Leon Supercopa. In 2010 Rosenqvist switched to Performance Racing in the German Formula 3 Cup . He was on the podium in eight races and won two races. He finished the season in fifth place overall.
Formula 3 Euro Series
In 2011 Rosenqvist switched to Mücke Motorsport in the Formula 3 Euro Series . With a win he finished the season in fifth place in the drivers' championship. With 219 to 251 points he lost the team-internal duel against Nigel Melker . In addition, Rosenqvist won the Formula 3 Masters this year . In 2012 Rosenqvist completed his second season in the Formula 3 Euro Series for Mücke Motorsport. In 2012 , he was also eligible for the European Formula 3 Championship , which included several races in the Formula 3 Euro Series. Rosenqvist won four races in the second half of the season, which counted towards both series. In the Formula 3 Euro Series he was defeated by his team mate Pascal Wehrlein , who was runner-up, and finished the season in fourth place. In the European Formula 3 he prevailed against Wehrlein, who was fourth there, and was third in the championship. In addition, Rosenqvist took part in the Macau Grand Prix in 2012 and finished second for Mücke Motorsport.
In 2013 , Rosenqvist stayed with Mücke Motorsport in the European Formula 3 championship. In Spielberg and Zandvoort , he won all three races. In Zandvoort he benefited from the fact that a guest starter crossed the finish line ahead of him, but this did not count for the classification. Rosenqvist won eleven races and was on the podium 18 times. With 457 to 489.5 points he lost to Raffaele Marciello in the end and was runner-up. Rosenqvist had about five times as many points as his teammates put together. He also won the Formula 3 Masters for the second time in his career. This made Rosenqvist the second driver after Valtteri Bottas to do this. In 2014 Rosenqvist contested his third season in the European Formula 3 championship for Mücke Motorsport. Rosenqvist won a race and was on the podium again. While his team-mate Lucas Auer finished fourth overall with 365 points, he was eighth overall with 198 points. Following the European Formula 3 season, Rosenqvist won the Macau Grand Prix for Mücke Motorsport . In addition to his Formula 3 involvement, Rosenqvist contested four races in Formula Acceleration 1 for Performance Racing . He won twice and was third on the podium again. He finished fifth in the drivers' championship.
In 2015 , Rosenqvist switched to the Prema Powerteam , the championship team of the previous year, within the European Formula 3 championship . He scored his first victory at the first race weekend at Silverstone . He also won a race at the second event in Hockenheim and came second twice. After a race weekend without a podium finish, he managed to win all three races in Monza . After being on the podium once at the next two events, he consistently achieved podium finishes on the following four race weekends. He won one race each in Zandvoort and Spielberg, two in Portimão and another three at the Nürburgring . He secured the European title at the penultimate event. At the end of the season Rosenqvist was with 508 points ahead of Antonio Giovinazzi with 412.5 points. In addition, he won the Macau Grand Prix again.
Different series
In 2016 , Rosenqvist completed single-posto races in North America in the Indy Lights for Belardi Auto Racing . He won a race on the first race weekend in St. Petersburg . In Toronto he won both runs. Since Rosenqvist participated in other racing series, he only took part in 10 of 18 Indy Lights races and was twelfth overall. With three wins, however, he had won more races than the overall winner Ed Jones . In formula racing, Rosenqvist also competed again in the Macau Grand Prix and came second behind António Félix da Costa . In addition, Rosenqvist started in 2016 in the sports car prototype at the Daytona 24-hour race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship . In addition, Rosenqvist was involved in several GT racing series for Mercedes in Europe in 2016. He started the 2016 DTM season as a substitute driver for Mercedes and replaced Esteban Ocon at the ART Grand Prix in the middle of the season . He already scored a point in his first DTM race. At the end of the season he finished 25th overall. Rosenqvist also took part in the Blancpain GT championships. For AKKA ASP Rosenqvist went along with Tristan Vautier in 2016 in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup at the start. The two won a race and finished seventh in the drivers' championship. In the Blancpain GT Endurance Series Cup Rosenqvist met with Vautier and Renger van der Zande for Spa 24 Hours at. The trio reached second place. The race was also part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge . In addition, Rosenqvist drove together with Nikolaj Rogivue at a racing weekend of the ADAC GT Masters in 2016 .
Formula E.
In the 2016/17 season , Rosenqvist competed for Mahindra Racing in the FIA Formula E Championship . In his debut race in Hong Kong , he was 15th and achieved the fastest lap, which he immediately scored a point. In the next ePrix in Marrakech , starting from pole position, he achieved third place. Rosenqvist and Mercedes decided that Rosenqvist would no longer continue his DTM involvement in order to focus on Formula E. At the Berlin ePrix , he won his first Formula E race on the first run. In the second run he was again on the podium in second place. Another two second places followed in the next races in New York City and Montreal . Rosenqvist finished his debut season in third place overall. With 127 to 88 points he prevailed internally against Nick Heidfeld . In addition, Rosenqvist drove in Japan in 2017 in the Super Formula for the SUNOCO Team LeMans . He was on the podium three times and finished the season in third place in the drivers' championship. With 28.5 to 6 points against Kazuya Ōshima , he also decided the internal duel for himself. Rosenqvist also competed in the 2017 Le Mans 24-hour race for DragonSpeed and made guest starts in the Scandinavian Porsche Carrera Cup .
For the formula e 2017/18 Rosenqvist stayed with Mahindra Racing. He won the second run in Hong Kong and also the following race in Marrakech ; in Mexico he suffered technical problems while in the lead and had to retire. After further technical problems in the following races, he finished sixth overall at the end of the season. Rosenqvist also took part in a race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2018.
IndyCar Series
In 2019 Rosenqvist switched to the IndyCar Series , but competed again for Mahindra Racing at the season opener of the FIA Formula E Championship 2018/19 in Diriyya . Here he was eliminated. In the IndyCar Series, he was able to win the title of Rookie of the Year with a five point lead over Colton Herta . In 2020 he won an IndyCar race for the first time in Elkhart Lake , at his 21st start.
