report
background
After the New York City ePrix , Sébastien Buemi led the drivers' standings with ten points ahead of Lucas di Grassi and with 53 points ahead of Felix Rosenqvist . With a total of 58 points to be awarded, apart from these three drivers, only Sam Bird had a mathematical chance of winning the drivers' championship, who was 57 points behind Buemi. In the team standings, Renault e.dams had 65 points ahead of ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport and 77 points ahead of Mahindra Racing . Only these three teams had arithmetical chances of winning the team classification.
After they had to skip the races in New York City because of an overlap with the FIA World Endurance Championship , Buemi and José María López entered this race again.
Buemi, di Grassi and Jean-Éric Vergne received a so-called FanBoost in the first race , they were allowed to increase the output of their second vehicle to up to 200 kW and thus use up to 100 kilojoules of additional energy. Di Grassi received the eleventh FanBoost in the eleventh race of the season and the eighteenth in the FIA Formula E Championship. For Buemi it was the ninth FanBoost this season and for Vergne the second.
Daniel Abt , Buemi and di Grassi received the FanBoost in the second race . Di Grassi thus received a FanBoost in all twelve races of the season , Buemi in all ten races in which he competed. For Abt it was the seventh FanBoost this season.
Race day one
training
In the first free practice, di Grassi set the fastest time in 1: 22.451 minutes ahead of Sam Bird and Vergne.
In the second free practice session, Nicolas Prost was fastest with a lap time of 1: 22.180 minutes ahead of Vergne and Rosenqvist. The training was canceled five minutes before the end after an accident by Buemi.
Qualifying
Qualifying started at 12:00 p.m. and took place in four groups of five drivers each, each group had six minutes in which the drivers had a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 170 kW and then a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 200 kW were allowed to drive. Di Grassi was fastest with a lap time of 1: 23.026 minutes. Bird, Engel and López only used 170 kW on their second timed lap. Jérôme D'Ambrosio did not manage to start his timed lap with 200 kW before the end of the six minutes, but crossed the finish line shortly after the end of the time. Since he nevertheless finished the following lap, the race stewards initiated an investigation against him. However, this was discontinued because D'Ambrosio could not see the checkered flag before.
The five fastest drivers then drove in the first five positions in the individual time trial called Superpole . Di Grassi secured pole position with a lap time of 1: 22.869 minutes and thus three points. He reduced the gap to Buemi in the drivers' standings to seven points. The other positions were occupied by Buemi, Stéphane Sarrazin , Rosenqvist and Prost, whose time in the Superpole was canceled because his vehicle was below the minimum weight.
Buemi was moved back ten starting positions because the battery on his vehicle had to be changed after the accident in free practice.
run
The race lasted 35 laps. The minimum time to change vehicles was 57 seconds.
Di Grassi won ahead of Vergne and Sarrazin. The remaining points were placed by Buemi, Abt, Bird, Prost, Mitch Evans , Robin Frijns and Rosenqvist. The point for the fastest race lap went to Loïc Duval .
After the race, Buemi was disqualified because during the weighing process it was found that the vehicle, which was damaged in the free practice accident and then repaired, was below the minimum weight. Thus, all drivers from fifth place onwards moved up one place in the standings, and Tom Dillmann achieved tenth place and the last point for the championship standings .
Di Grassi thus took the lead in the overall standings with 18 points ahead of Buemi, while Bird was the new third, but he could no longer become champion. In the team classification, Renault e.dams was now 33 points ahead of ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, Mahindra Racing remained third.
