report

background

After the Marrakech ePrix , Sébastien Buemi led the drivers' standings with 22 points ahead of Lucas di Grassi and with 26 points ahead of Nicolas Prost . In the team standings, Renault e.dams had a 38 point lead over the tied teams ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport and Mahindra Racing .

The number of laps increased from 35 to 37, increasing the race distance from 86.200 km to 91.195 km.

With Sam Bird and António Félix da Costa , two former winners competed in the race.

Daniel Abt , Buemi and di Grassi received a so-called FanBoost , they were allowed to increase the output of their second vehicle to up to 200 kW and thus use up to 100 kilojoules of additional energy. Buemi and di Grassi received the third FanBoost in the third race of the season and the tenth each in the FIA Formula E Championship, for Abt it was the second FanBoost in a row.

training

In the first free practice, José María López drove with a lap time of 1: 09.431 minutes ahead of Jean-Éric Vergne and Mitch Evans . Félix da Costa's training had to be interrupted after an accident. After Félix da Costa stopped on the track due to technical problems shortly before the end of the training session, the training session was canceled.

In the second free practice, Bird was fastest in 1: 08.792 minutes ahead of Felix Rosenqvist and di Grassi. The training was interrupted once because Loïc Duval lost a front wheel on his vehicle.

Qualifying

Qualifying started at 12:00 p.m. and took place in four groups of five drivers each, each group had six minutes in which the drivers had a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 170 kW and then a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 200 kW were allowed to drive. Maro Engel , López and Ma Qinghua lagged behind the 110 percent time and did not qualify for the ePrix. Vergne was fastest with a lap time of 1: 08.751 minutes.

The five fastest drivers then drove in the first five positions in the individual time trial called Superpole . Di Grassi secured pole position with a lap time of 1: 09.404 minutes and thus three points. The other positions were occupied by Vergne, Buemi, Oliver Turvey and Nelson Piquet jr. It was the first pole position for di Grassi.

Engel, López and Ma were allowed to start the race because they were sufficiently fast in the second free practice. They started at the end of the field; the order of their starting positions was determined by the lap times they had achieved in the second free practice session.

run

The race lasted 37 laps.

At the start, the positions at the top remained unchanged. Adam Carroll stopped at the start, his Jaguar had to be pushed off the track by Marshals . The race management therefore announced a Full Course Yellow . Di Grassi led before Vergne, Buemi, Turvey, Piquet, Rosenqvist, Prost, Jérôme D'Ambrosio , Bird and Evans. Carroll started the race when the front of the field hit the start-finish straight . Since he did not adhere to the speed limit of 50 km / h, he was given a drive-through penalty. The race was reopened on the second lap.

Bird attacked D'Ambrosio on the wing at turn five , but D'Ambrosio defended himself. When accelerating out of the curve, Bird touched the boundary with the left rear wheel, damaging the suspension and losing several positions, but initially drove on. Evans overtook D'Ambrosio at the beginning of the third lap, as the lap continued, Vergne passed di Grassi and took the lead. Buemi also passed di Grassi on the same lap.

Di Grassi couldn't keep up with Vergne and Buemi's pace. Prost overtook Rosenqvist and Piquet one after the other and was thus in fifth place. Buemi put Vergne under pressure and overtook him on the sixth lap, while Turvey passed di Grassi on the same lap. In the eighth lap, Bird was the first driver to change vehicles; his vehicle was no longer drivable after the suspension broke.

On the twelfth lap, Prost di Grassi overtook. One lap later, Engel slowed down and the race management showed him the fried egg flag . He also pitted to change vehicles.

On lap 19, Turvey, Evans and Loïc Duval were the first drivers to pits for a scheduled vehicle change, the minimum time for changing vehicles was 55 seconds. One lap later, with the exception of Rosenqvist, Nick Heidfeld and Carroll, who switched on lap 21, all the other drivers changed their vehicles. Di Grassi left his pit just before Piquet drove past it. The race stewards warned di Grassi about an unsafe release , but since the pit lane made a curve immediately in front of di Grassi's pit and di Grassi could not see Piquet, they refrained from a higher penalty against di Grassi. Rosenqvist had technical problems with the second car so that he lost a lap.

After the vehicle changes, Buemi led in front of Vergne, Prost, di Grassi, Piquet, Turvey, Evans, Duval, D'Ambrosio and Abt.

Di Grassi overtook Prost on lap 24 and was now in third place. Evans, who had less energy after his early car change, had to let Duval and D'Ambrosio pass, and he was also given a five-second time penalty for driving too fast on the Full Course Yellow . Bird drove the fastest lap of the race to date.

Heidfeld overtook López, Stéphane Sarrazin and Robin Frijns one after the other, but then received a drive-through penalty because he fell short of the minimum time for the pit stop by around 0.4 seconds. It fell back to 15th place. D'Ambrosio overtook Duval and was now in seventh place. López also passed Sarrazin and Frijns one after the other. Rosenqvist drove the fastest lap of the race at this point.

On lap 36, Abbot overtook Evans and then Turvey. Duval dueled D'Ambrosio for a whole lap and passed him again. This duel cost both Dragon drivers time, however, so that the Abt, who was previously more than three seconds behind the two, caught up on the last lap and overtook D'Ambrosio shortly before the finish. Bird tried one more time to achieve the fastest lap, braking himself in the process and slamming into the barrier.

Buemi won ahead of Vergne and di Grassi. It was the third victory in the third race for Buemi, who became the first driver in the FIA Formula E Championship to win three races in a row. Vergne achieved the first and di Grassi the second podium finish of the season. The remaining points were placed by Prost, Piquet, Duval, Abt, D'Ambrosio, Turvey and López. The point for the fastest race lap went to Rosenqvist.

Buemi thus extended his lead in the overall standings over di Grassi and Prost. Renault.edams also increased its lead over ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport and Mahindra Racing in the team standings.
