Nicolas Jean Prost (born August 18, 1981 in Saint-Chamond ) is a French racing driver . In 2008 he won the Euroseries 3000 . He competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) from 2012 to 2016 . He also competed in the FIA Formula E championship from 2014 to 2018 .

He is the eldest son of the four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost .

Career

Nicolas Prost started his motorsport career relatively late. He had previously been active in golf . He got no karting experience in 2003 at the age of 21 years directly in the single-seater racing and was tenth of the French Formula Renault Campus. In 2004 he got a cockpit at ORECA in the French Formula Renault and reached 18th place overall. In addition, he drove two races in the German Formula Renault and took part in GT racing in four races of the French GT championship. In 2005 Prost joined Graff Racing in the French Formula Renault and improved to tenth place overall. In addition, he drove four races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup for Graff Racing . For DAMS he also took part in a Formula Renault 3.5 event and again completed four races in the French GT championship.

In 2006 Prost switched to Racing Engineering in the Spanish Formula 3 championship . He won a race and was fourth overall with five other podium finishes as the best driver of his team. In 2007 he stayed in the Spanish Formula 3 championship and was given a cockpit at Campos F3 Racing . He won two races and was on the podium a total of six times. In the drivers' standings he improved to third place and was the best driver in his team. In addition, Prost made his debut in 2007 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . He competed for ORECA and finished tenth.

In 2008 Prost switched to Bull Racing in the Euroseries 3000 . Although he only managed one victory, with a total of six podium finishes, he still decided the championship for himself. With 60 to 58 points he prevailed against Fabio Onidi . Prost benefited from the fact that the drivers with the most wins - Adam Khan and Fabrizio Crestani , who had won three races - did not complete the entire season. In the subsequent 2008/09 season , Prost was a driver for the French team in the A1GP . A sixth place was his best race result.

In 2009 Prost left formula racing and switched to endurance racing. He received a cockpit for the Speedy Racing Team Sebah in the Le Mans Series . Together with his teammates Andrea Belicchi and Marcel Fässler , a second place was the best individual result and the three finished the season in fifth place. Moreover, Prost and Belicchi took along with Neel Jani at the 24-hour race at Le Mans in part. In the winter of 2009/10, Prost drove an electric car for the Team Pilot ice races in the Andros Trophy and won the Andros Electrique Championship . In 2010 Prost kept his cockpit in the Le Mans Series. His racing team changed its name to Rebellion Racing this season and has been competing under this name ever since. Prost formed a team with Jani. The two finished fifth in the drivers' standings with two podium finishes. At the 24-hour race at Le Mans , the two were supported by Marco Andretti . However, they did not reach the goal. Prost also contested four races in the FIA GT1 World Championship for Matech Competition . In winter 2010/11 Prost won the Andros Electrique Championship again. In 2011 Prost and Jani finished third in the Le Mans Series for Rebellion Racing. They also drove in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC), which also included this year's Le Mans 24-hour race . In winter 2011/12 he drove again in the Trophée Andros and was the best newcomer in the gasoline category.

In 2012 , Prost received a cockpit at Rebellion Racing in the newly founded FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Jani remained his teammate. In the first three races, the two were also supported by Nick Heidfeld . At the 24-hour race at Le Mans , the three of them achieved third place and fourth place overall in the world championship standings. In the drivers' world championship, Prost and Jani took fourth place. In addition, he won the Petit Le Mans in Road Atlanta together with Belicchi and Jani . The race was part of the ALMS . In 2012 Prost also completed Formula 1 test drives for Lotus . In 2013 Prost had changing teammates at Rebellion Racing in the WEC. He contested seven out of eight races. Jani was replaced by Mathias Beche after the Le Mans 24-hour race , Heidfeld by Belicchi after five races. Third place in the 6-hour race in São Paulo was Prost's best result. He finished the drivers' world championship in sixth place. In addition, Prost contested two ALMS races together with Heidfeld and Jani. The three stood on the podium in both races and won the Petit Le Mans again. In 2013 Prost was also employed as a Formula 1 test driver at Lotus.

In 2014 Prost joined Beche and Heidfeld for Rebellion in the WEC. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans , the three drivers finished fourth in the final classification as the best private team. The trio finished the season in tenth place in the drivers' world championship. In addition, Prost drove in the newly founded FIA Formula E Championship in 2014/15 . He became team-mate of Sébastien Buemi at e.dams . In the first race, the Beijing ePrix , he achieved pole position. Adjusted for pit stops, he led the race through to the last corner. In front of this he collided with Heidfeld, who had been in second place until then and who dared to overtake. Both drivers were uninjured. Prost was finally ranked twelfth. Prost was given a starting place penalty of ten positions for causing the collision for the next race. At the second ePrix in Putrajaya , Prost achieved the pole position again and received the associated bonus points. Due to the starting place penalty from the previous race, however, he only started the race from eleventh place. He finished in fourth place. In the fourth race, the Buenos Aires ePrix , Prost achieved his first podium finish with second place. In the following race in Miami he achieved his first victory and he took the lead in the drivers' championship, which he lost again in the next race. Prost finished the season as the only driver who had scored points in every race, in sixth place overall. Thus, he became the only driver of the season to lose a point due to the rule of cancellation.

In 2015 Prost stayed with Beche and Heidfeld at Rebellion in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Since Rebellion switched the engine manufacturer from Toyota to Advanced Engine Research (AER), the team only started the season for the third race. While Heidfeld did not compete in every race, Prost and Beche finished 14th overall at the end of the season with two seventh places as the best results. He also drove as a guest starter in the Stock Car Brasil . In addition, Prost also competed for e.dams in Formula E in 2015/16 . He finished third at the Mexico City ePrix and won both races at the season finale in London . While his teammate Buemi won the championship, Prost finished the season in third place.

In 2016 Prost and Heidfeld competed again for Rebellion Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Beche and Nelson Piquet junior took turns as the third team-mate. Rebellion withdrew the vehicle from the world championship after the fourth race. Two fourth places were the best results of Prost and Heidfeld, who finished 14th in the world championship. Prost also contested his third Formula E season for Renault e.dams in 2016/17 . Although he was unable to achieve any podium places this time, he still scored regularly and ended the season in sixth place overall.

In 2017 Prost stayed with Rebellion Racing, where he will drive alongside Bruno Senna and Julien Canal in the number 31 car in the LMP2 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship. In addition, Prost contested his fourth Formula E season for Renault e.dams in 2017/18 . He finished the season in 19th place overall. For the new season he no longer received a contract as a regular driver.

Personal

Prost worked part-time at a bank in Geneva until 2007 . He has lived in Féchy since February 2010 with his wife, the designer Delphine Frey .
