The Long Beach ePrix 2015 (officially: 2015 FIA Formula E Long Beach ePrix ) took place on April 4th at the Long Beach Grand Prix Circuit in Long Beach , USA and was the sixth race of the FIA Formula E Championship 2014/15 . It was the first Long Beach ePrix and the second race of the FIA Formula E Championship in North America .

After the Miami ePrix , Nicolas Prost led the drivers' standings by seven points over Lucas di Grassi and 15 points ahead of Sam Bird . All three drivers had previously each won an ePrix. In the team standings, e.dams was 31 points ahead of Audi Sport Abt and 32 points ahead of Virgin .
Sam Bird , Nelson Piquet Jr. and Jean-Éric Vergne received a so-called FanBoost , they were allowed to increase the power of each of their two cars for a maximum of five seconds from 150 kW (204 hp) to 180 kW (245 hp) during the race. For Vergne this was the fourth FanBoost in his fourth race. Bird and Piquet each received their first FanBoost .
Before the race, the mode of free practice was changed, due to the charging time of the batteries, this now took place in three units of 25 minutes each.

In the first free practice session, Piquet was ahead of Bruno Senna and Scott Speed with a lap time of 59.723 seconds . Shortly before the end of the training, Daniel Abt hit the road barrier with his vehicle, the training was then canceled. In the second free practice session, di Grassi set the fastest lap in 57.305 seconds, followed by Sébastien Buemi and Prost. Training was interrupted again because Vergne crashed into the barrier and severely damaged his vehicle. In the third free practice session, di Grassi was again the fastest in 57.293 seconds ahead of Vergne and Prost.
Qualifying
Qualifying started at 12:00 p.m. and took place in four groups of five drivers each, each group had 10 minutes to set a fast lap. Buemi achieved pole position with a lap time of 56.583 seconds, ahead of Abt and Prost. Vitantonio Liuzzi hit the bar on his first attempt to achieve a fast lap. Qualifying therefore had to be interrupted, Liuzzi missed the 110 percent time and did not qualify for the race. Buemi's fastest lap time, however, was canceled because he used too much energy and started from tenth place. Thus, Abt achieved his first pole position, and it was also the first pole position for the Abt team. Also, Antonio Felix da Costa spent too much energy, so that his fastest lap time was deleted. As a result, he dropped from sixth to seventh place.

The race lasted 39 laps. There was no introductory lap before the race, the vehicles were two rows behind their actual positions on the starting grid and rolled up to them before the start.
Abt had spinning tires at the start, but Prost started even worse. So Piquet took the lead when braking into the first corner on the inside. Vergne overtook di Grassi and attacked Prost, when the two vehicles came into contact. With Prost, di Grassi, Speed, Buemi, Bird, Senna, Pic, Chandhok and Liuzzi, a number of drivers skipped the first chicane, but no penalties were issued. Buemi and Bird came into contact, which damaged the right front suspension on Bird's car. Bird drove slowly to the pits and changed vehicles there. At the end of the first lap, Piquet was leading ahead of Abt, Prost, Vergne, di Grassi, Speed, Buemi, da Costa, Jérôme D'Ambrosio and Stéphane Sarrazin .
Piquet was able to pull away from the front, Prost was directly behind Abt, behind Vergne was already about two seconds behind. On lap four, after a driving error in turn two, Speed hit the track barrier and retired. The safety car was sent out to rescue the vehicle .
The race was reopened at the end of lap seven. Vergne used his FanBoost to pass Prost when braking into the first corner. Prost lost a lot of momentum, so that di Grassi passed him when braking into turn three. Buemi also attacked him, but Prost was able to defend the attack and da Costa briefly passed Buemi. Buemi managed to pass da Costa again. Da Costa was then attacked by D'Ambrosio, but stayed ahead of him. Charles Pic passed Loïc Duval when braking into turn seven . However, he braked too late, so that he collided with Jarno Trulli . The race was over for Trulli, Pic drove to the pits for a repair stop. Bruno Senna passed Sarrazin on the start-finish straight and was now in tenth place. The safety car was sent out again to rescue Trulli's car.
At the end of the eleventh lap, the race was released again. Buemi passed his team-mate Prost before turn five, and when braking into turn seven, da Costa also passed Prost. Di Grassi put Vergne under pressure, behind him Buemi set the fastest lap of the race to date. Bird, last at the time, used his FanBoost to set a new fastest race lap. Since he had already changed his vehicle at the end of the first lap, it was clear that he wanted to get the two bonus points this way, as he would not be able to finish the race.
Piquet moved away from the front by three seconds, followed by Abt, Vergne, di Grassi and Buemi, one behind the other. Da Costa was another three seconds behind in sixth place. On lap 21 D'Ambrosio overtook Prost, while braking into turn seven, Prost rammed D'Ambrosio and passed him again, and Senna also overtook D'Ambrosio.
At the end of the lap, Abt and Sarrazin pitted to change vehicles. The minimum time for changing vehicles was 82 seconds. In the following lap, Piquet, Vergne, Buemi, di Grassi, da Costa, Prost, D'Ambrosio, Heidfeld, Chandhok and Liuzzi also pitted to change vehicles, Senna took the lead ahead of Dúran, Duval, Jaime Alguersuari and Pic. These drivers also pitted to change vehicles at the end of lap 23. Vergne used his FanBoost immediately after the pit stop to defend himself against Abt, whom he had passed during the pit stop. After the pit stops, Piquet led in front of Vergne, Abt, di Grassi, Buemi, Senna, Prost, Heidfeld, D'Ambrosio and Sarrazin. Bird gave up the race at the end of lap 23, the energy of his vehicle was exhausted. Da Costa stayed more than eight seconds over the minimum time during his pit stop, so he fell out of the top 10.
Pic received a drive through fine for causing the accident with Trulli. Abbot was also given a drive-through penalty for using too much energy, and Prost received the same penalty for colliding with D'Ambrosio. Abt fell to place 14, Prost to place 15 and Pic to place 16. Buemi received a warning because he had driven next to di Grassi in the pit lane and had passed a traffic cone on the wrong side.
Piquet and Vergne were clearly in the first two positions, followed by di Grassi and Buemi, but Senna was able to catch up on both. Heidfeld, D'Ambrosio, Sarrazin, da Costa and Alguersuari followed a long way behind. Prost drove the fastest race lap in the back field. D'Ambrosio attacked Heidfeld on lap 36. The vehicles touched, Heidfeld turned and hit the stacks of tires there backwards. He fell back to eleventh place, but was able to continue the race with a damaged rear spoiler.
Piquet won the race ahead of Vergne and di Grassi. Buemi, Senna, D'Ambrosio, da Costa, Alguersuari, Duval and Sarrazin completed the top 10. It was Piquet's first win, making him the sixth winner in the sixth race. He won his first ePrix on the same track on which his father Nelson Piquet had won his first Formula 1 Grand Prix almost exactly 35 years earlier with the Grand Prix of the USA West in 1980 . Vergne achieved his first podium finish with second place and di Grassi with third place his fourth. The two points for the fastest race lap went to Prost.
Di Grassi took the lead in the drivers' standings again, ahead of Piquet and Prost. Audi Sport Abt was able to slightly reduce e.dams' lead in the team standings, while Virgin stayed in third place.
