The Venturi Formula E Team is a Monaco motorsport team based in Monte Carlo and founded in 2013 to participate in the FIA Formula E Championship . The team is owned by Venturi Automobiles, owner Gildo Pallanca Pastor and Susie Wolff .

history

On December 9, 2013, the Venturi Formula E Team was presented as the tenth and thus the last team in the newly founded FIA Formula E Championship. Owner of the team was originally a joint venture of Pastor, Francesco Costa , Bert Hedaya and Hollywood - actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Marc Gindorf . Nick Heidfeld and Stéphane Sarrazin were under contract as drivers . Venturi finished the first season in ninth place overall, Heidfeld achieved a podium finish at the Moscow ePrix .

From the second season of the FIA ​​Formula E Championship, Venturi used a self-constructed vehicle. Sarrazin extended his contract, but Heidfeld switched to Mahindra Racing . He was replaced by Jacques Villeneuve , the first Formula 1 world champion to compete in the FIA ​​Formula E championship. Villeneuve was replaced by Mike Conway after only three races . The team finished the season in sixth place in the team standings.

In the season 2016/17 Sarrazin remained with the team, his new teammate was Mercedes -Werkspilot Maro Engel . The team also announced a technical collaboration with ZF Friedrichshafen . Sarrazin switched to Techeetah after eight races , his successor being Tom Dillmann . At the end of the season, the team finished ninth.

Engel and Edoardo Mortara , also Mercedes works drivers, have been announced as pilots for the 2017/18 season . Dillmann represented Mortara in Berlin and New York City , as this was prevented due to a collision with the DTM. Venturi achieved a podium finish and finished seventh in the team classification with 72 points at the end of the season. During the season, Wolff became a partner.

Former Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa , who last competed for Williams in 2017 , was hired as a driver for the 2018/19 season . Edoardo Mortara stayed with the team and became Massa's teammate. Mortara won the Hong Kong E-Prix and finished the season in 14th place, just ahead of Massa. Venturi finished eighth in the team ranking with 88 points.

As of the 2019/20 season , the racing team will compete as a Mercedes customer team , thus losing its manufacturer status for the first time. In addition, the team is now called Venturi Racing .
