Virgin Racing Formula E Team

The Virgin Racing Formula E Team , DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team from October 2015 to July 2018 , is a British motorsport team based in London that was founded in 2013 to participate in the FIA Formula E Championship . The team is part of the Virgin Group .

Virgin competed in Formula 1 with a team called Virgin Racing in 2010 and 2011 , the team was then taken over by Marussia .

history

On December 5, 2013, the Virgin Racing Formula E team was presented as the ninth team and the only British team in the newly founded FIA Formula E Championship, with Alex Tai becoming team principal . The drivers for the first season were Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari . Bird achieved two victories of the season and fifth place in the drivers' standings, Alguersuari remained without a podium and finished 13th. Virgin finished the season in fifth place in the team standings.

In the course of the last race of the season, the London ePrix , Virgin announced that it would work with Citroën from the second season of the championship . Based on DS Automobiles , the team will compete under the name DS Virgin Racing Team . The entry for the second season was then made under the name DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team . Sam Bird extended his contract with the team, his new teammate became Jean-Éric Vergne . The team finished the season in third place, Bird won a race and started from pole position three times. Vergne also achieved a pole position and two podiums.

For the third season Vergne left the team, his successor was José María López . Bird won both races in the New York City ePrix 2017 , and he and López each achieved two additional podium finishes. Alex Lynn represented López in New York City, who was also competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship . Lynn caused a sensation because he directly achieved pole position in the first race. At the end of the season the team was in fourth place in the team ranking.

Before the 2017/18 season , the team split from López. Lynn became his successor. Bird won two races and finished four more podiums, and at the end of the season he finished third in the drivers' championship. DS Virgin also took third place in the team ranking with 160 points. Shortly before the end of the season, the team parted ways with team boss Tai, successor was the team's former chief technology officer, Sylvain Filippi . At the end of the season, the team announced the separation from DS, DS took over the manufacturing license that Virgin had previously held in the course of the separation.

In the 2018/19 season , Virgin competed again with Bird, his new teammate was Robin Frijns . Both drivers were able to win races, Frijns finished the championship in fifth place, Bird in ninth place. The team took third place in the team ranking with 191 points.
