The Paris ePrix 2016 (officially: 2016 FIA Formula E Visa Paris ePrix ) took place on April 23rd at the Circuit des Invalides in Paris and was the seventh race of the FIA Formula E Championship 2015/16 . It was the first Paris ePrix and the first race of the season in Europe .

After the Long Beach ePrix , Lucas di Grassi led the drivers' standings with one point ahead of Sébastien Buemi and 30 points ahead of Sam Bird . In the team standings, Renault e.dams was six points ahead of ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport and 26 points ahead of Dragon Racing .
When Team Aguri there was a change of driver, Salvador Durán was Ma Qinghua replaced.
Buemi, Loïc Duval and Jean-Éric Vergne received a so-called FanBoost , they were allowed to increase the output of their second vehicle once to up to 200 kW and thus use up to 100 kilojoules of additional energy. For Buemi it was the first FanBoost of the season, for Duval the very first in the FIA Formula E Championship and for Vergne the fourth of the season.

In the first free practice session, Buemi set the fastest time in 1: 02.841 minutes ahead of di Grassi and Stéphane Sarrazin . Training had to be interrupted after Jérôme D'Ambrosio parked his vehicle on the track with technical problems.
In the second free practice session, Mike Conway was fastest with a lap time of 1: 01.386 minutes ahead of Vergne and Bird.
Qualifying
Qualifying started at 12:00 p.m. and took place in three groups of five drivers and one group of three drivers, each group had 10 minutes to set a fast lap.
Nick Heidfeld spun on his fast lap, Mike Conway collided with him. Qualifying was therefore interrupted. Conway and Heidfeld could not drive another lap and qualified for the last two starting positions.
The five fastest drivers then drove in the first five positions in the individual time trial called Superpole . Sam Bird secured pole position with a lap time of 1: 01.616 minutes and thus three points. It was his third pole position in the last four races. The other positions were occupied by di Grassi, Vergne, Sarrazin and Nicolas Prost .

The race lasted 45 laps.
At the start di Grassi took the lead, Vergne also overtook Bird, whereby the two teammates touched slightly. Robin Frijns started poorly from sixth on the grid, so that Oliver Turvey , Buemi and António Félix da Costa passed. After the first lap, Di Grassi led ahead of Vergne, Bird, Prost, Sarrazin, Turvey, Buemi, Félix da Costa, Frijns and Nelson Piquet jr.
On the sixth lap, Frijns overtook Félix da Costa, while Duval fell by the wayside with a technical problem. To rescue the vehicle, the race management called a full course yellow , all vehicles had to reduce their speed to 50 km / h. The race was reopened one lap later.
Buemi put Turvey under pressure and attacked him several times, finally passing on the ninth lap. One lap later, Turvey also had to let Frijns pass and was now under pressure from Félix da Costa, which he was able to keep behind him until the 15th lap. On the same lap, Turvey's team-mate Piquet suffered a technical problem, he fell back to the end of the field and then pitted to change vehicles.
Meanwhile, Buemi overtook Sarrazin and was thus in fifth place. In the following laps, he shortened the gap to his team-mate Prost and overtook him on the 22nd lap.
One lap later, Félix da Costa, Conway and Ma were the first drivers to come to the pits for a scheduled vehicle change. Meanwhile, Bird attacked Vergne, who had to save a little more energy. The two Virgin vehicles touched again, but the positions remained unchanged. At the same time Frijns overtook Sarrazin and was thus in sixth place.
In the 24th lap, almost all the other drivers changed their vehicles with di Grassi, Vergne, Bird, Buemi, Prost, Frijns, Sarrazin, Turvey, Jérôme D'Ambrosio and Simona de Silvestro , while Sarrazin went back to Frijns with a shorter pit stop past. On lap 25, the two Mahindra drivers Bruno Senna and Heidfeld changed their vehicles, so Daniel Abt took the lead until he also switched vehicles one lap later.
After the pit stops, di Grassi led in front of Vergne, Bird, Buemi, Prost, Sarrazin, Frijns, Félix da Costa, Senna and Abt. Buemi drove the fastest lap to date on the 31st lap and shortened the gap to Bird, which he had in the the following laps again and again under pressure. He used his FanBoost in the 34th round , but Bird defended himself successfully. On lap 40 Bird braked himself and drove into the run-off zone , falling back to sixth place. In the meantime, Heidfeld had set the fastest race lap.
One lap later, Ma, who had already been lapped, hit the lane after a driving error, causing his vehicle to be badly damaged and retired. Piquet gave up the race in the pits because the battery of his second car was empty. The race management sent the safety car out onto the track to rescue Ma's vehicle . Since the vehicle had to be recovered with a crane and there was also a lot of debris on the track, the race management decided to end the race behind the safety car.
Di Grassi won ahead of Vergne and Buemi. Di Grassi won his third race of the season, and with this victory he also became the first driver in the FIA Formula E Championship to win two races in a row. Vergne scored his first podium finish since the 2015 London ePrix , while Buemi scored points in the thirteenth consecutive ePrix. The remaining points were placed by Prost, Sarrazin, Bird, Frijns, Félix da Costa, Senna and Abt. The two points for the fastest race lap went to Heidfeld.
Di Grassi extended his lead in the overall standings to Buemi and Bird. The first three positions in the team standings also remained unchanged.
