Nathanaël Berthon
Nathanaël Berthon (born July 1, 1989 in Romagnat ) is a French racing driver . He started in the GP2 series from 2012 to 2015 . In 2016 he competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Career
Like most motorsport enthusiasts, Berthon began his career in karting , where he was active from 2006 to 2007. In 2008 he switched to the single-seater racing and entered both in the Western European Formula Renault , where he finished in 18th place overall, and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , where he remained without points at. In 2009 he stayed in both racing series and started for Epsilon Euskadi . While he achieved sixth overall place in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup with one win, he was third in the Western European Formula Renault with two wins. Since he was the best French driver in the Western European Formula Renault, he received the championship title of the French Formula Renault.
In 2010 Berthon switched to Formula Renault 3.5 for the International DracoRacing championship team and became a teammate of Julian Leal . He made a good debut and finished third in his second race. At his home race in Magny-Cours , he achieved his first victory in the Formula Renault 3.5. Berthon finished the season in seventh place overall, leaving Leal 20th well behind. He also made guest starts in the British Formula 3 championship . In 2011 , Berthon started for Racing Engineering in the GP2 Asia series . He shot the season in 23rd place overall. He then completed his second season in Formula Renault 3.5 for the Czech racing team ISR . While his team mate Daniel Ricciardo finished fifth with a win, Berthon finished the season with third place as the best result in 13th place. After the season, Berthon took part in the 2011 GP2 Final for Racing Engineering and finished eleventh. He then made his debut for HRT in a test drive in a Formula 1 car.
In early 2012 , Berthon competed in the Toyota Racing Series , New Zealand's highest monoposto series, for M2 Competition . Fourth place was his best result. He finished 12 of 15 races within the top ten. At the end of the season he was in seventh place in the drivers' standings. He then switched to the GP2 series , in which he competed for Racing Engineering in the 2012 season. In the sprint race in Barcelona he achieved his first GP2 podium with a second place. At the end of the season, Berthon was twelfth in the drivers' standings with two second places as the best results. He lost to his teammate Fabio Leimer , who finished seventh. He also took part in two races in the French GT Championship. In 2013 , Berthon received a GP2 cockpit from Trident Racing . He only scored points on the Hungaroring . After eighth place in the main race, he won the sprint race starting from first place. It was his first GP2 win. He finished the season in 20th place overall and was defeated by Kevin Ceccon within the team , who had lost his cockpit after the first half of the season.
In 2014 , Berthon played his third GP2 season for Venezuela GP Lazarus . He was 20th in the overall standings and scored 17 out of 19 points for his team. In Formula Acceleration 1 , he took part in two events for different teams. In addition, Berthon went to endurance races. For Murphy Prototypes he took part in two races of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and for the first time in the 24-hour race of Le Mans . He also competed for Lotus in a race in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). In 2015 , Berthon stayed with Lazarus in the GP2 series. He finished the season in 16th place overall. In addition, he took part in long-distance races for Murphy Prototypes. He completed the entire season of the European Le Mans Series together with Michael Lyons and Mark Patterson . With a second place as the best result, the three drivers finished tenth in the LMP2 drivers' standings. In addition, Berthon contested the Le Mans 24-hour race for Murphy Prototypes. At the end of 2015 , Berthon competed in three races in the FIA Formula E Championship for Team Aguri . Already on his debut at the Beijing ePrix he scored points in eighth place.
In 2016 , Berthon received a cockpit in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the G-Drive Racing team, which is managed by Jota Sport .
