General
In addition to drivers from New Zealand, the series has an international starting field.
Former drivers of the Toyota Racing Series are for example Wade Cunningham and Jay Howard (both IndyCar Series ), Brendon Hartley ( Formula 1 test driver) and Chris van der Drift ( Superleague Formula ). In addition to younger racing drivers, the Toyota Racing Series also included pilots who already had some motorsport experience, such as Matt Halliday , who had previously competed in the Champ Car and A1GP .
The New Zealand Grand Prix is on the Toyota Racing Series calendar . Alongside the Macau Grand Prix and the Grand Prix de Pau , it is one of the few racing events outside of the Formula 1 World Championship that has the status of a national Grand Prix.
vehicle
The monoposto is based on a carbon fiber monocoque designed and manufactured by the Italian racing car manufacturer Tatuus in accordance with the FIA - Formula 3 regulations. The chassis is a typical formula racing car with front and rear wings, winglets and a fully clad underbody including a diffuser. The vehicles are powered by a modified 1.8-liter Toyota engine called the 2ZZ-GE. It runs on E85 biofuel and has an output of around 160 kW (215 PS). The standard tires ( slicks ) come from Michelin (front: 20 / 54-13, rear: 24 / 57-13). The car has a total weight of around 480 kg.
