Robert Michailowitsch Schwarzman ( Russian Роберт Михайлович Шварцман , English transcription Robert Mikhailovich Shwartzman ; born September 16, 1999 in Saint Petersburg ) is a Russian racing driver and reigning champion of the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship . He won three races with the Prema Powerteam team and achieved two pole positions . In the 2020 season he will compete again for Prema in the FIA Formula 2 Championship .

Career

Karting

In 2004 Schwarzman started his karting career in Europe. He was successful there at a young age and won several races.

Formula 4

In 2014, Robert Schwarzman began his monoposto career with six races in the Italian Formula 4 championship with Cram Motorsport and finished 16th in the overall standings. The following year he competed for the entire season with the Mücke Motorsport team , won two races and came third in the overall standings.

Formula Renault

In 2016, Schwarzman switched to Formula Renault 2.0 with the Josef Kaufmann Racing team . He won two races in the Northern Europe Cup and finished sixth in the championship. He finished eighth in the Eurocup .

In 2017 he switched to R-ace GP . He finished third in the drivers' championship, won six races and was always on the podium, except at the Red Bull Ring and the Circuit Paul Ricard .

GP3 series

Robert Schwarzman took part in the GP3 test drives on November 2016. These were not as successful as expected.

Toyota Racing Series

In 2018 Robert Schwarzman took part in the Toyota Racing Series . He was in the top five in all races, winning the championship ahead of his teammates, Marcus Armstrong and Richard Verschoor , who had already participated in 2017.

European Formula 3 Championship

In 2017, Schwarzman tested the European Formula 3 car from Prema Powerteam . After the test drives, he was accepted into the Ferrari Driver Academy . In 2019, Schwarzman started the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship with a pole position in Barcelona. After Christian Lundgaard's time penalty , he came first and won his first race. In Spielberg , Schwarzman finished twelfth in qualifying after a mechanical problem. In Monza , Schwarzman qualified in third place and despite a penalty he won the race. The next day he finished eighth by 0.067 seconds and got the last point. He took pole position in Sochi , but was overtaken by Marcus Armstrong and finished second. He won the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship ahead of Jehan Daruvala. The next day he finished third and was always on the podium in Russia .

After finishing second in qualifying at the Macau GP , Schwarzman retired on the first lap with a damaged front tire. The reason for the damage was a collision with Christian Lundgaard in the second corner.

FIA Formula 2 Championship

In 2020 Robert Schwarzman will drive in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Prema Powerteam . At the Austrian Grand Prix , he drove his first race in Formula 2, where he immediately achieved his first podium finish. He came in third place, 1 place behind Marcus Armstrong . In the second race he was fourth, 1 position behind Dan Ticktum .

At the Grand Prix of Styria , he won his first Formula 2 race with Prema Powerteam .
