Mick Schumacher (2019)

Mick Schumacher (born March 22, 1999 in Vufflens-le-Château , Switzerland ) is a German automobile racing driver . He started in the European Formula 3 championship in 2017 and 2018 , in which he won the championship title in 2018. He has been competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship since 2019 .

He is the son of Corinna and Michael Schumacher .

Mick Schumacher is the son of the former racing driver Michael Schumacher and the Reining Western rider Corinna Schumacher . His uncle Ralf Schumacher is a former racing car driver, whose son David is an active racing car driver in Formula 3 . Like his father, Mick Schumacher is looked after by the journalist and manager Sabine Kehm .

Mick Schumacher grew up in Switzerland , lived in Vufflens-le-Château until 2008 and since then in Gland .

Career

Karting (2008-2014)

Schumacher began his motorsport career in karting in 2008 . In order to avoid greater attention he started his career under the pseudonym Mick Betsch . Betsch is his mother's maiden name. Schumacher drove in the KF3 class of the ADAC Kart Masters in 2011 and 2012, finishing ninth and seventh. In 2011 and 2012 he came third in the KF3 class of the Euro Winter Cup. In 2012 he also achieved third place in the KF3 rating of the DMV kart championship . In 2013 Schumacher took third place in the German Junior Kart Championship , as well as in the CIK-FIA Super Cup of the KF Juniors. In 2014 Schumacher used the name Mick Junior and competed in national and international junior championships. He finished second behind David Beckmann in the German Junior Kart Championship. He also finished second at the European and World Cup , behind Enaam Ahmed . Although he did not start with the surname Schumacher in karting, his successes in karting were reported in the international press.

Formula 4 (2015-2016)

At the end of 2014 he completed his first test drives in a Formula 4 car for Jenzer Motorsport . In 2015 Schumacher switched to formula racing . He was given a cockpit in the German Formula 4 championship at Van Amersfoort Racing . There he became a teammate of Harrison Newey , son of British motorsport engineer Adrian Newey . It was mentioned for the first time under his real name Mick Schumacher. In his first race in Oschersleben , he finished ninth in the points and won the “Best Rookie ” award . In the third race of the weekend, Mick Schumacher achieved his first victory starting from second place. At the second race weekend in Spielberg , Schumacher broke his right hand in an accident in the second race, so that he did not start a race. At the EuroSpeedway Lausitz , Schumacher achieved a fast lap under red flags in qualifying. The race management then banned him for the first race of this event. Overall, Schumacher achieved two podium finishes and was tenth overall. Within the team he was defeated by Joey Mawson , who finished third.

At the beginning of 2016, Schumacher completed a four-race weekend in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 on the Madras Motor Race Track in India . He achieved two podium places and finished tenth overall. He then received a contract with Prema Powerteam for the German and Italian Formula 4 championships . In the Italian Formula 4 championship , he won the first two races of the season in Misano and one each in Imola , Campagnano di Roma and Monza . With 216 to 233 points he was second in the championship behind Marcos Siebert . In the German Formula 4 championship , Schumacher won another race at the season opener in Oschersleben. Two more victories followed at the Lausitzring and one victory each at the Nürburgring and one in Hockenheim . Also in this championship he reached second place. Here he was defeated by his former teammate Mawson with 322 to 374 points.

Formula 3 (2017-2018)

In 2016/17 Schumacher competed again in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 and contested the entire season for the first time. On the Bahrain International Circuit he won two of the four races held, and he also scored two victories on the Buddh International Circuit . At the end of the season, with four wins and five other podium finishes, he was third in the overall standings behind Newey and Mawson. Schumacher then switched to the European Formula 3 championship in 2017 , in which he continued to compete for the Prema Powerteam. In Monza he achieved his only podium finish of the season with third place. While his teammates Maximilian Günther and Callum Ilott achieved third and fourth places with race wins, Schumacher finished the season in twelfth place overall. He finished third in the rookie classification. He also competed at the Macau Grand Prix for Prema, who started there as SJM Theodore Racing by Prema . He finished the race in 16th place.

In 2018 Schumacher completed his second season in the European Formula 3 championship for Prema, which this year competed as Prema Theodore Racing . In the first four of ten race weekends, he achieved third place each in Mogyoród and Zandvoort . On the fifth race weekend in Spa-Francorchamps , Schumacher won his first Formula 3 race. After a further victory each at Silverstone and Misano, Schumacher managed to win all three races at the Nürburgring. Two race weekends before the end of the season, he was three points behind Daniel Ticktum, who had been the leading driver until then . With two more victories at the following race weekend in Spielberg , Schumacher took over the championship lead, which he held until the end of the season. With that he won his first championship title in formula racing. At the end of the season he was 365 to 308 points ahead of Ticktum. After the season, Schumacher started again for SJM Theodore Racing by Prema at the Macau Grand Prix and finished fifth.

Formula 2 (2019-2020)

In 2019, Schumacher stayed with Prema Powerteam and started in the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship . In addition, the Ferrari Driver Academy announced that Schumacher would be included in the youth development program. In this context, Schumacher took part as a young driver in test drives in Bahrain for the Formula 1 teams Ferrari and Alfa Romeo Racing . In Hungary he achieved his only podium finish of the season with a victory in the sprint race on the Hungaroring . Schumacher finished the season in 12th place overall.

In 2020 Schumacher will again compete with the Prema Powerteam in the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship .

Formula 1 (from 2021)

Mick Schumacher will contest the Formula 1 World Championship in 2021 for the Haas F1 Team . His teammate will be Nikita Masepin . Schumacher chose 47 as his starting number.
