Daniel Ticktum
Daniel "Dan" Ticktum (born June 8, 1999 ) is a British automobile racing driver . He competes in the FIA Formula 2 Championship . Ticktum became known through a willful accident in British Formula 4 , through which he was banned for a year.
Career
Ticktum began his motorsport career in karting in 2008 . His first karting experience was on the Filching Manor track near Eastbourne , where he set several course records. He remained active in karting until 2014 and won several kart championships. In 2011 the beverage manufacturer Red Bull became aware of him and from then on kept loose contact with Ticktum.
In 2015 Ticktum made his debut in formula racing and competed for Fortec Motorsports in the British Formula 4 championship . Ticktum started the season well and won its first two races at the second event in Donington . In the first two events he always drove into the top 10 and made four podiums. But then the other teams, especially Carlin with Lando Norris , managed to catch up and he lost the championship lead. At the fifth event on the Croft Circuit , Ticktum managed to be among the frontrunners again. However, he rammed Norris off the track in the first race in the duel for victory. He drove the next two races at Croft with reservations and scored another win in the last run. Subsequently, Ticktum was excluded from the entire event for unsportsmanlike conduct, so that both victories were denied him. At this point in time, Ticktum was under great pressure, as Red Bull had promised him acceptance into the sponsorship program if he performed well and was aware that otherwise he would probably not find enough sponsors to continue his career. Ticktum then won another race in Snetterton . At the last run of the penultimate race weekend at Silverstone , Ticktum again attracted attention due to unsporting behavior. After being shot by Ricky Collard , he was at the end of the field. It was already the second collision of the two racing drivers in the season, whereby neither driver received a penalty in the first collision. In a safety car phase , Ticktum overtook several vehicles despite the ban, in order to finally ram Collard off the track. He disregarded 13 yellow flags, four double-waved yellow flags and 15 safety car signs. Both drivers retired in the collision. Ticktum was excluded from the ranking of all Silverstone races and initially blocked for one month. At the subsequent negotiation of the Motor Sports Association , the British motor sports association , his racing license was withdrawn for two years, with the second year being suspended. A total of 18 points were deducted from Ticktum in the British Formula 4 championship due to unsportsmanlike activities. At the end of the season he was in sixth place. Before Ticktum was banned, he had participated in two events of the North European Formula Renault for Koiranen GP and had two guest starts in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup .
After Ticktum decided against continuing his motorsport career in North America with a US license in 2016, he completed a private Formula 3 test program with Double R Racing . He was also allowed to test in the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 simulator . In October he returned to racing and made three guest starts for Carlin in the European Formula 3 championship . He qualified for the Macau Grand Prix , which he contested for Double R Racing. He also drove for Double R Racing in the autumn series of the British Formula 3 Championship . He managed a victory. In winter 2016/17, Ticktum competed in an event of the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 . He achieved a podium placement.
At the beginning of 2017, Ticktum was included in the Red Bull funding program. In June 2019 it was announced that RedBull will end its cooperation with Ticktum in the junior program.
He competes for Arden International in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. On November 19, 2017, he won the FIA Formula 3 World Cup in Macau. In 2018 he repeated his victory in Macau.
Since December 17, 2019, Ticktum has been under contract as a development driver for the ROKiT Williams Racing F1 Team in their driver academy. In the 2020 season he will compete in the FIA Formula 2 Championship for DAMS .
