The Rockingham Motor Speedway is a former motorsport racetrack opened in May 2001 in Rockingham near Corby in the English county of Northamptonshire ( United Kingdom ). It consisted of an oval course and a permanent circuit in the infield.
In November 2018 the last race was held in Rockingham with a "super send-off". After the site has been sold, a logistics center for the automotive industry will be built there.
Oval course

The oval course became famous through the two CART races in 2001 and 2002. The race in 2001 was the second European race of the 2001 CART season after the American Memorial ( German 500 ) on the Eurospeedway Lausitz . Due to the weather, the qualification training was canceled and Kenny Bräck started as championship leader from pole position. The race, which started later because of the rain and then waved off earlier because of the falling dusk, was dominated by Bräck. Gil de Ferran overtook Bräck on the last lap , securing his first victory of the 2001 season and laying the groundwork for the later championship victory.
In 2002 the CART championship returned to Rockingham. Kenny Bräck secured pole position again this time, with qualifying training taking place in 2002. The race was won by local hero Dario Franchitti just ahead of Tony Kanaan , who holds the course record on the oval until 2015. For Dario it was the first victory on an oval and also his last victory in the CART championship before he switched to the Indy Racing League .

In addition, races of the ASCAR series took place on the oval between 2001 and 2007 .
Circuit
In the infield of the oval there were connecting curves that could be used for several variants of circular routes. The longest variant was 3.299 km long. This was used by the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). A slightly shorter variant was used in the British Formula 3 championship .
