The Tandragee 100 is a road race for motorcycles around the Northern Irish town of Tandragee ( Irish : Tóin re Gaoith) in County Armagh . The race is officially announced under the name Around A Pound Tandragee 100 .
history
The first race of the North Armagh Motorcycle & Car Club (abbreviated: North Armagh MC & CC ) was held on Saturday, April 19, 1958 over a distance of 100 miles - hence the number in the name. For security and organizational reasons as well as because of the increased performance of the participating machines, the distance was repeatedly reduced. Now, depending on the racing class, only four to seven laps are driven on the course, so that a race takes an average of fifteen minutes. It is one of the first races of the Irish road racing season and has always taken place with the exception of 1972, 2001 and 2010. The qualifying is Saturday on Friday and the race. The route is also unchanged. Every year around 120 drivers, some of them well-known, compete and are celebrated by up to 15,000 spectators.
particularities
The Tandragee 100 has retained its original character and is often given the nickname Real Road Racing or mini tt . The paddock is set up on the meadows of the local farmers and in bad weather, for example, the machines have to be pushed to the start because of the mud that forms. Given the harsh conditions of the track, many riders see the race as preparation for the Isle of Man TT , the world's oldest and most controversial motorcycle race. The Dutch trade magazine Motor Magazine has named the Tandragee 100 in 2012, the fourth-best road race for motorcycles worldwide.
driver
The town of Ballymoney is around an hour's drive north of Tandragee, to a certain extent "on the doorstep" of the Dunlop racing family, whose members are naturally often to be found in the best and winner lists. However, Ryan Farquhar has been the most successful participant since 2016. In the same year he set a new lap record in the Supertwins class with an average speed of 103.694 mph (166.879 km / h ).

Fatal accidents
There are always spectacular accidents in road races, including the Tandragee 100. Since the track consists of public roads, there are no safety devices such as run-off or fall zones . Compared to other events such as the Isle of Man TT , the North West 200 or the Ulster Grand Prix , relatively few drivers had fatal accidents in the history of the race. A total of ten pilots and two spectators have been killed so far (as of 2017).

Classification
It starts in nine classes, two of which are open. Anyone who has a racing license that complies with the regulations is entitled to start. For the classes counted in the Irish and Ulster championships, drivers must qualify in advance for admission. The regular entry fee in 2016 was 315 euros (240 pounds ); 80 euros (65 pounds) had to be paid for participation in the classic cars. Compared to racing series such as the motorcycle world championship , the costs for the drivers are low. But the prize money is correspondingly low. In 2016, the winner in the H class received 290 euros (250 pounds), William Dunlop as the winner of the C class 464 euros (400 pounds) and the winner of the main race Farquhar received 1,160 euros (1,000 pounds) as a bonus.
