Andretti Autosport

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andretti Autosport is a motorsport racing team that was founded in December 2002 by joining Team Green with Michael Andretti after his career ended as Andretti Green Racing .

history

The owner of the team is Michael Andretti. The team has been competing in the IndyCar Series since the 2003 season . The team's most successful drivers so far have been Tony Kanaan , Dan Wheldon , Dario Franchitti and Ryan Hunter-Reay , each with a championship won. In the 2007 and 2008 seasons, the team competed in the Indy Racing League as well as in the American Le Mans Series . Since the 2010 season the team has been operating as Andretti Autosport .

For the 2014/15 season Andretti Autosport got into the new Championship FIA Formula E- one. Franck Montagny and Charles Pic were used as drivers . After Montagny was banned for doping, Jean-Éric Vergne received a regular cockpit. No permanent second driver was signed, the other races were driven by Matthew Brabham , Marco Andretti , Scott Speed , Justin Wilson and Simona de Silvestro . Andretti Autosport took sixth place in the team classification and achieved a total of four podium finishes.

In the 2015/16 season , de Silvestro continued to drive for the team, and Robin Frijns , who made his debut in the FIA Formula E Championship, was signed up. Vergne, however, switched to Virgin . A few weeks before the start of the season, after massive problems in the official test drives before the season, in which only a few installation laps could be covered, the team decided to forego the use of the self-developed drive during the season and, just like the Aguri team, the To use preseason. Andretti parted ways with his technology partner Houston Mechatronics . At the end of the season, the team finished in seventh place ahead of Aguri and achieved a podium finish.

In the 2016/17 season , Frijns stayed with the team, de Silvestro was replaced by António Félix da Costa . In addition, the team announced a cooperation with BMW in the run-up to the season . With just six places in the points, Andretti again finished seventh in the team classification at the end of the season.

A strengthening of the cooperation with BMW was announced for the 2017/18 season . For this reason, the company parted with Frijns, who had achieved the better results, but had a driver contract in GT racing with Audi . BMW works driver Félix da Costa, however, was confirmed as a driver. His new team-mate became BMW works driver Tom Blomqvist . At the urging of team sponsor MS&AD Kamui Kobayashi took the place of Blomqvist at the Hong Kong E-Prix . After the Paris E-Prix , Blomqvist was replaced by Stéphane Sarrazin . At the end of the season, the team finished tenth and last in the team ranking.

Before the 2018/19 season , BMW and Andretti announced that Andretti would be competing as a BMW works team under the name BMW i Andretti Motorsport Team , with BMW taking over the manufacturer's license that Andretti previously held. António Félix da Costa and Alexander Sims were hired as drivers, and the name of the racing car is BMW iFE.18. Andretti continued to provide the team at the races, but was supported by BMW engineers. Drivetrain and inverter, which are approved for in-house development in the FIA Formula E championship, were developed by BMW. After the team had already dominated the tests before the season in Valencia, Félix da Costa scored the team’s first victory at the season opener in Diriyya . Four more podium finishes followed over the course of the season. The team finished the season with 156 points in fifth place in the team standings.
