Michael Andretti began his career in 1980 in Formula Ford , in which he won the championship in 1981. He repeated this in 1982 in the Super Vee. In 1983 he took part in the Le Mans 24-hour race for the first time together with his father and Frenchman Philippe Alliot and finished third. In the same year he made his debut in the IndyCar World Series , in which he was able to record his first victories in 1986 . In 1987 he won his first 500 mile race at Michigan International Speedway . In 1991 he managed to finish the season as champion, in the same year he signed a test driver contract with McLaren . With Ayrton Senna as a team-mate, he drove for McLaren for the first and last time in Formula 1 in 1993 . Except for the third place at the Italian Grand Prix and 7 points in the drivers' world championship, he could not achieve any success there and was replaced by Mika Häkkinen . So a year later, in 1994 , he returned to the Champ Car. In 2003 he ended his active racing career with a total of 42 victories. Racing team owner
In 2003 Andretti bought into the "Team Green", which from then on competed as " Andretti Green Racing " in the Indy Racing League.
