Piquet received his fourth FanBoost in a row, Buemi and di Grassi each received their second. Qualifying
Qualifying started at 12:00 p.m. and took place in four groups of five drivers each, each group had 10 minutes to set a fast lap.
Vergne set the fastest time in 1: 09.429 minutes ahead of Piquet and di Grassi and thus received the three bonus points for pole position. It was his third pole position. Stéphane Sarrazin was disqualified because his team had changed the fire extinguisher and thus violated the parc fermé rules.
run
The race lasted 35 laps. There was no introductory lap before the race, the vehicles were three rows behind their actual positions on the starting grid and rolled towards them before the start.
Vergne struggled with spinning wheels at the start, so Piquet took the lead when braking into the first corner. Daniel Abt started well and passed Jérôme D'Ambrosio and Nicolas Prost . After the first lap, Piquet was leading in front of Vergne, di Grassi, Buemi, Abt, D'Ambrosio, Prost, Nick Heidfeld , Sam Bird and Salvador Durán .
Piquet was able to pull away at the top, Abt lost touch with Buemi. D'Ambrosio attacked Abbot several times, but failed to overtake. Bird came to the pits after eight laps to change vehicles, after the change he was directly in front of Piquet and was lapped. Jaime Alguersuari passed Antonio García on lap ten and was now in 13th place. António Félix da Costa attacked Jarno Trulli when braking into turn seven , Trulli had to skip the chicane and kept his place. Alguersuari also passed Wilson on lap 14. On lap 16, Félix da Costa attacked Trulli again when braking into turn seven , Trulli again skipped the chicane and stayed in front. At the end of lap 16, Alguersuari was the first driver to pit for a regular vehicle change. The minimum time for pit stops was 59 seconds.
In lap 17 Buemi used his FanBoost to attack di Grassi, who in turn defended himself with his FanBoost . Piquet also used his FanBoost this lap and pitted to change vehicles, as did Trulli, Félix da Costa and García. Senna turned in turn one and hit the road barrier backwards, losing his rear spoiler and had to drive slowly back to the pits. One lap later Vergne, di Grassi, Abt, D'Ambrosio, Prost, Durán, Wilson and Karun Chandhok pitted . Buemi led ahead of Heidfeld, Duval and Sarrazin. Di Grassi passed Vergne by swapping vehicles faster. D'Ambrosio lost many positions as his pit stop lasted 31 seconds longer than the minimum time.
Buemi, Heidfeld, Duval and Sarrazin pitted a lap later. The e.dams team wrongly assumed a minimum pit stop time of 68 seconds and, just like Prost one lap earlier, sent Buemi back out on the track too late. Buemi almost collided with Heidfeld on the exit from the pits. Sarrazin was sent back to the track too early, his pit stop time was only 58 seconds. For this he received a drive-through penalty shortly afterwards.
After the pit stops, Piquet was five seconds ahead of di Grassi, Vergne, Buemi, Heidfeld, Abt, Durán, Prost, Alguersuari and Trulli. The duel between Trulli and Félix da Costa continued after the pit stops, with Félix da Costa passing on lap 23. When braking into turn seven , Wilson Trulli also attacked, who again skipped the chicane and stayed in front. Alguersuari received a drive-through penalty for using too much energy. Bird gave up the race because his vehicle ran out of energy. Heidfeld drove the fastest lap of the race to date on lap 25, and together with Buemi he clearly caught up with Vergne. Two laps later, Buemi set the fastest race lap. Senna received a drive-through penalty for driving too fast in the pit lane.
Sarrazin spun on lap 29 when attacking Alguersuari but was able to continue. Duval attacked Wilson on lap 32, but braked himself in the process and hit Trulli. Trulli lost its rear wing, Duvals damaged his front wing. Trulli then gave up the race.
Buemi caught up with Vergne at the beginning of the last lap and put him under pressure. On the last lap, he passed Vergne and the vehicles touched. Buemi skipped the chicane and slowed down to let Vergne pass again. However, this did not pass and was overtaken by Heidfeld, who collided slightly with Buemi when braking into turn eleven . Félix da Costa passed Prost on the last lap.
Following the race, Buemi received a drive-through penalty for the unsafe clearance at the pit stop, which was converted into a 29-second time penalty. He fell back to ninth place.
Piquet won the race ahead of di Grassi and Heidfeld. Vergne, Abt, Durán, Félix da Costa, Prost, Buemi and Wilson completed the top 10. The two points for the fastest race lap went to Buemi.
With his second victory, Piquet was able to extend the lead in the championship, di Grassi took second place ahead of Buemi. Besides these drivers, only Prost, D'Ambrosio and Bird had theoretical chances for the title. In the team standings, e.dams stayed ahead, Audi Sport Abt took second and NEXTEV TCR third. Six teams still had theoretical title chances.
