Mahindra Racing

Mahindra Racing is an Indian motorsport team based in Mumbai that was founded in 2011 to participate in the motorcycle world championship . The team is owned by the Mahindra Group , which owns the Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited .

Mahindra Racing also competes in the FIA Formula E Championship . Team principal is Dilbagh Gill .

Motorcycle world championship

In 2011 Mahindra competed for the first time in the 125 cc class, which was replaced by Moto3 in the following season . At the Dutch TT 2016 , Francesco Bagnaia achieved the first victory.

FIA Formula E Championship

On November 28, 2013 Mahindra Racing was presented as the eighth team in the newly founded FIA Formula E Championship. The drivers under contract were Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna . Carlin Motorsport looked after the races . After the first season, Mahindra separated from Carlin, the team was only eighth in the team standings.

In the second season Mahindra used the self-developed drive unit under the name Mahindra M2ELECTRO . Nick Heidfeld replaced Chandhok, already at the start of the season scored Heidfeld in third place, the first podium of the team. At the season finale in London , Senna achieved second place on the podium for the team, which ended the season in fifth place in the team standings.

For the FIA Formula E Championship 2016/17 , the team split from Senna, he was replaced by Felix Rosenqvist . The drive unit has been further developed and is used under the name Mahindra M3ELECTRO . As in the previous season, Heidfeld finished third at the season opener, which this time took place in Hong Kong . In the second race of the season, the Marrakech ePrix 2016 , Rosenqvist achieved the first pole position for the team, and he also finished the race in third place. In the further course of the season, Heidfeld achieved another four third places, Rosenqvist won the first race as part of the Berlin ePrix 2017 and was second three times. The team achieved third place in the team standings, and Rosenqvist also came third in the drivers' standings.

In the fourth season the team competed again with the driver duo Heidfeld and Rosenqvist, using the Mahindra M4ELECTRO . Heidfeld again finished third at the season opener in Hong Kong , it was Heidfeld's only podium result. Rosenqvist won the second race in Hong Kong and the third round of the season in Marrakech , but was unable to achieve another podium finish in the further course of the season. At the end of the season, the team finished fourth with 138 points.

In the 2018/19 season Mahindra competed with Jérôme D'Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein , who was replaced by Rosenqvist at the start of the season due to contractual obligations. D'Ambrosio won the Marrakech E-Prix and finished the championship in eleventh place, just before Wehrlein. Rosenqvist was left without points. The team finished sixth in the team ranking with 125 points.
