António Maria de Mello Breyner Félix da Costa (born August 31, 1991 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese racing driver . He competed in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2012 and 2013 . He competed in the DTM from 2014 to 2016 . He has been competing in the FIA Formula E Championship since 2014 , which he won in 2020.
His older brother Duarte is also a racing driver.
Career
Like most motorsport enthusiasts , Félix da Costa began his career in karting , in which he was active from 2002 to 2007. In 2008 he switched to the single-seater racing and was immediately for Motopark Academy starting behind his teammate Valtteri Bottas runner of the North European Formula Renault . He also started in six races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and was 13th. After the season he took part in the winter championships of the Portuguese and British Formula Renault . In 2009 Félix da Costa stayed in both series. He improved to third place overall in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and won the championship title of the Northern European Formula Renault with nine wins.
In 2010 Félix da Costa started for Motopark Academy in the Formula 3 Euro Series . He won three races and was the driver with the second-most wins after the champion Edoardo Mortara . At the end of the season, he finished seventh in the drivers' championship. He also took part in two race weekends of the GP3 series for Carlin and finished 26th in the overall standings. In November he made his first experience in a Formula 1 car during test drives for Force India . In 2011 Félix da Costa took part in the entire season of the GP3 series for Status Grand Prix . After scoring points in four races, his first win followed in the last race of the season. He finished the season in 13th place overall. In addition, Félix da Costa joined Hitech Racing for two racing weekends in the British Formula 3 championship . He achieved three podium placements with a second and two third places. He also started an event for the FIA Formula 3 Trophy 2011 . At the end of the year he started for Ocean Racing Technology at the GP2 Final 2011 and finished ninth.
In 2012 Félix da Costa moved to Carlin within the GP3 series, for which he made his debut in the 2010 series. He won three races and achieved six podiums. He scored significantly more points than his two teammates combined and finished the season in third place overall. He was also in the support program of the mid-year Red Bull recorded and received in Arden Caterham a cockpit in the 2012 season of Formula Renault 3.5 . Félix da Costa won one race each in Mogyoród and Le Castellet and both races in Catalunya . He finished fourth in the drivers' championship. Although he had not competed for the entire season, by the end of the season he had scored more than twice as many points as his teammate Alexander Rossi . Félix da Costa also took part in the MotorSport Vision Formula 3 Cup , a regional Formula 3 championship in Great Britain, as a guest starter and won two races in two starts. With this commitment, he met the requirements for participation in the Macau Grand Prix . He won this starting from pole position. Félix da Costa also completed Formula 1 test drives for Red Bull .
In 2013 , Félix da Costa stayed with Arden Caterham in Formula Renault 3.5. After a win at the season opener in Monza , he went several races without a win and achieved two second places. His second victory followed on the seventh race weekend in Mogyoród and his third in Le Castellet. Félix da Costa improved to third place in the championship. With 172 to 14 points, he clearly prevailed against his teammate Pietro Fantin . In addition, Félix da Costa again took part in the MotorSport Vision Formula 3 Cup as a guest starter in order to compete again in the Macau Grand Prix . Starting for Carlin, he finished second behind Alex Lynn . Félix da Costa was also under contract with Red Bull as a Formula 1 test driver.
In 2014 Félix da Costa received a BMW cockpit in the DTM with Team MTEK . He finished the season as the worst BMW driver in 21st place overall. In addition, Félix da Costa continues to act as a test driver for Red Bull Racing in Formula 1. Félix da Costa also competed for Amlin Aguri in the newly founded FIA Formula E Championship in the 2014/15 season . Due to a scheduling conflict with the DTM, he only entered the series for the second race, the Putrajaya ePrix , and did not participate in the last two races. With an eighth place, he immediately achieved a top 10 placement. Félix da Costa achieved his first Formula E victory in the fourth race in Buenos Aires . In the overall ranking he reached eighth place.
In 2015 Félix da Costa switched to the BMW Team Schnitzer within the DTM . He chose the 13th as his starting number. In Zandvoort he achieved his first podium finish in the DTM with second place in the first race. His first victory finally followed in the second race. In the drivers' standings, he improved to eleventh place overall. He also made a guest appearance in the Stock Car Brasil . Félix da Costa also took part in Formula E again with Aguri in 2015/16 . He did not compete in one race due to an overlap with the DTM and was represented by René Rast . He had changing teammates and scored 28 of the 32 points his team scored. He finished the season in 13th place in the overall standings.
In the DTM season in 2016 Félix da Costa remained at Schnitzer. Third place was his best result and he achieved two pole positions. Internally, he prevailed against Martin Tomczyk with 43 to 16 points . He was 17th overall. His DTM involvement ended after the season. He also contested two races in the ADAC GT Masters and took part in the Macau Grand Prix, which he won. For formula e 2016/17 switched Félix da Costa to Andretti Autosport . The racing team entered into a cooperation with BMW for this season. With just one point result, he was in 20th place in the drivers' standings at the end of the season.
In the formula e 2017/18 Félix da Costa came again for Andretti at. He finished the season in 15th place in the overall standings.
Félix da Costa also competed for Andretti in 2018/19 , who now started as a works team with engines from BMW. Félix da Costa won the season opener in Diriyya and achieved three more podium finishes. At the end of the season he finished sixth in the drivers' championship with 99 points.
In August 2020, da Costa became the new Formula E winner in Berlin .
