Radiation protection officer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To put it simply, the person responsible for radiation protection (also SSV ) in Germany is anyone who requires a permit under the Atomic Energy Act , the Radiation Protection Ordinance or the X-ray Ordinance , e.g. B. for the safekeeping or use of nuclear fuel , for handling radioactive substances or ionizing radiation or for operating X-ray equipment .

The person responsible for radiation protection must ensure that all regulations on radiation protection are complied with, for example by providing suitable rooms, equipment and devices, by appropriate regulation of the operational sequence and by providing sufficient and suitable personnel. The tasks of a radiation protection officer include, in particular, the appointment of the required number of radiation protection officers . In contrast to these, he does not have to have the specialist knowledge himself . The specific activities to ensure radiation protection are of the Radiation Protection commissioned managed and supervised.

In Bavaria, for example, every school principal in whose school X-ray equipment (as defined in the RöV) or reportable preparations (as defined in the Radiation Protection Ordinance) is used is automatically responsible for radiation protection, regardless of his or her specialist knowledge.

According to Section 170 Radiation Protection Act (StrlSchG), all occupationally exposed persons and holders of radiation passports require a radiation protection register number (SSR number) from December 31, 2018 . The application for the SSR numbers at the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) for all employees currently under surveillance must be carried out by the radiation protection officer by March 31, 2019.
