The 2011 GP3 series was the second season of the GP3 series . It started on May 7, 2011 at the Istanbul Park Circuit and ended on September 11, 2011 in the Autodromo Nazionale Monza . The drivers' championship title was secured early by Valtteri Bottas , whose Lotus ART team also won the team title early.
Starting field
All teams and drivers used Dallara chassis , Renault engines and Pirelli tires .

Changes during the season
- There were two driver changes before the start of the season. Although Doru Sechelariu was signed by Tech 1 Racing in February , the team confirmed a driver trio to which he was not a member at the beginning of April. In the week before the season opener, Willi Steindl , who had been under contract with RSC Mücke Motorsport since November 2010 , also lost his cockpit to Luciano Bacheta . Both pilots had already completed test drives for the teams.
- Carlin changed a driver for the second race weekend. Tom Dillmann was replaced for three race weekends by Daniel Morad and then by Callum MacLeod . Dillmann paused the second race weekend and started for the Addax team on the third race weekend . There he replaced Dominic Storey .
- Andrea Caldarelli was replaced by Thomas Hylkema from Tech 1 Racing for the third race weekend , as he had switched to Formula Nippon .
- For race weekend in Spa-Francorchamps , there were several changes: Richie Stanaway sparked Pedro Nunes at Lotus ART off Alex Fontana broke Vittorio Ghirelli with Jenzer Motorsport , and Daniel Mancinelli broke Luciano Bacheta RSC Mucke Motorsport from. Stanaway was leading the German Formula 3 Cup and Fontana the European F3 Open .
- At the final race weekend in Monza , Christophe Hurni made his GP3 debut for Jenzer Motorsport as a replacement for Alex Fontana. At the age of 48, Hurni became the oldest GP3 driver to date.

The 2011 GP3 series racing calendar was released on January 18, 2011. A total of eight racing weekends were held, which took place as part of the supporting program for Formula 1 and the GP2 series. A planned race weekend in Monte Carlo had to be canceled due to lack of space at the racetrack.

In addition, the fastest pilot in qualifying, who started from pole position in the main race , received two points. The driver who had the fastest race lap of the top ten drivers also received a point.
