Pål Varhaug
Pål Varhaug (born January 26, 1991 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian racing driver .
Career
Varhaug began his motorsport career in 1996 in karting , which he practiced until 2006. That year he won the Norwegian Junior Championship. In 2007 he moved to Jenzer Motorsport , for which he competed in various Formula Renault championships. Varhaug was most successful in the Swiss series, in which he was runner-up. In 2008 he stayed with Jenzer Motorsport. While he reached 14th place in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , he won the championship title of the Italian Formula Renault. In 2009 Varhaug started for Jenzer Motorsport in the international Formula Master . While his team mate Fabio Leimer dominated the championship, Varhaug achieved five podium finishes and finished fifth overall at the end of the season. Behind Alexander Rossi , he was the second best newcomer.
In 2010 , Varhaug stayed with Jenzer Motorsport and switched with the team to the newly founded GP3 series . He made history with a win in the first race of the new series. In the following races, however, he did not manage to build on the initial success and he did not get into the points. At the end of the season he finished 13th overall. In 2011 Varhaug switched to DAMS and competed in the GP2 Asia and GP2 series . In the GP2 Asia series he was 13th at the end of the season , while his teammate Romain Grosjean won the title. The season was similar in the GP2 series . While Grosjean won the championship, Varhaug remained without points and finished the season in 23rd place overall.
In 2012 Varhaug took part in the Auto GP World Series for Virtuosi Racing UK . At first he only had a contract for the first event. After a second place in the first race, he won the second race and took over the championship lead. Varhaug kept the cockpit and finished the season with a total of three wins in second place in the drivers' championship. With 183 to 221 he was defeated by the master Adrian Quaife-Hobbs . In 2013 Varhaug returned to the GP2 series. He received a cockpit at Hilmer Motorsport . At the third event he was replaced by Jon Lancaster . He hadn't scored any points. He did not complete any other races that year.
In 2014 Varhaug returned to the GP3 series and competed again for Jenzer Motorsport. A fifth place was his best individual placement and he finished the season in 17th place overall. He also took part in an Auto GP event for Virtuosi Racing UK. In 2015 , Varhaug stayed with Jenzer Motorsport in the GP3 series. He lost to his two team-mates and was 19th in the drivers' championship.
