Then Lancaster switched to the winter series of the British Formula Renault . In the overall standings, the Briton took 16th place. In 2007 Lancaster started for SG Formula in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and won the runner-up title behind Brendon Hartley . Lancaster also started in the French Formula Renault, in which he finished sixth in the overall standings.

In 2008 Lancaster switched to the Formula 3 Euro Series for the ART Grand Prix championship team . In the first race at Hockenheim , Lancaster had a serious accident. In a position battle with Jean Karl Vernay , Lancaster's front wheel touched the rear wheel of Vernay's car. Lancaster's car overturned and he was taken to the hospital for an examination. He had to skip the second race at Hockenheim. In the further course of the season Lancaster won a race at the Nürburgring and was twelfth in the overall standings.

After Lancaster had not found a cockpit in 2009, he joined the Comtec Racing team for the fourth race weekend of the 2009 season in the Formula Renault 3.5 . With a win he finished 13th overall at the end of the season. 2010 Lancaster denied his second season in the Formula Renault 3.5 for Fortec Motorsport , where he was teammate of Sten Pentus . Lancaster made unwanted headlines at his home race at Silverstone . Starting from pole position , he lost control of his vehicle at the start and cleared Daniel Ricciardo, who was starting behind him, from the track. While his teammate finished fourth, he finished 13th overall with third place as the best result.

In 2011 Lancaster first took part in a race weekend in the FIA Formula 2 Championship . He then entered the Auto GP for the third race weekend of the 2011 season and competed for SuperNova . In his third Auto-GP race in Donington he coped with the rainy conditions best and scored his first victory. In 2012 Lancaster switched to Ocean Racing Technology in the GP2 series . For the second race weekend he was replaced at short notice by Brendon Hartley because there were budget problems. It was then no longer used. In 2013 , Lancaster returned to the GP2 series for the third race weekend. He replaced Pål Varhaug at Hilmer Motorsport . At the first race in Barcelona , Lancaster achieved a podium finish with a third place. He won the sprint races at Silverstone and at the Nürburgring. It was his first GP2 victories. After five events for Hilmer Motorsport, Lancaster lost his cockpit for a weekend to Robin Frijns , who had previously been his team-mate on four race weekends. Lancaster then returned to the cockpit. With a total of three podium finishes, he finished the season in eleventh place. In addition, Lancaster competed in a race of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 2013 for Greaves Motorsport and was fifth. In 2014 , Lancaster started the GP2 season for MP Motorsport . At the second event he was replaced by Tio Ellinas . For the fifth race weekend he returned to Hilmer in the GP2 series. At the end of the season he was 23rd in the overall standings.
