SG Formula - sometimes also known as the SG Drivers Project - was a French automobile racing team that was exclusively active in formula racing . The racing stable was based in La Rochelle .

history

The team was founded in 2004 by Frenchman Stéphane Guérin founded and went from that year in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and the French Formula Renault -2.0 Championship at where succeeded in the latter already in the first win debut race. In 2005 it extended its involvement to the Dutch Formula Renault, which was discontinued at the end of the season, whereupon the focus in the next few years was again on the Eurocup and the French series (from 2008 "Formula Renault 2.0 West European Cup"). In 2008 and 2009 , the team also competed with three cars in the Formula 3 Euro Series , but did not get beyond three podium places for Yann Clairay in the first and a third place for Andrea Caldarelli in the second season. In addition, it took part in the Formula Renault 3.5 from the third race weekend in 2009 as the successor to the KTR racing team under the name KMP Group / SG Formula .

In 2010 the team, which was to take part in the World Series by Renault this season separately from the Russian KMP Group, was still present at the winter tests of the Formula Renault 3.5 and the Eurocup, but was then removed from the committee of the World Cup due to the lack of a second driver. Series-by-Renault organization was not selected as one of the twelve eligible teams and subsequently did not appear in any series. Tech 1 Racing took over the material and the infrastructure for the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup .

With Romain Grosjean (Eurocup 2004 & 2005, France 2004 & 2005), Charles Pic (Eurocup 2007, France 2007), Daniel Ricciardo (Eurocup 2008, WEC 2008) and Jean-Éric Vergne (Eurocup 2008 & 2009, WEC 2008 & 2009) So far, four former drivers of the racing team have made it to Formula 1 regular drivers.
