Tio Ellinas (2010)

Eftihios "Tio" Ellinas (born January 27, 1992 in Larnaka ) is a Cypriot racing driver . He started in the GP3 series in 2012 and 2013 . There he reached fourth place overall in 2013. In 2015 he took part in the Formula Renault 3.5 .

Career

Ellinas began his motorsport career in karting in 2001 , where he was active until 2009. Between 2003 and 2009 he won a total of ten Cypriot kart championship titles. During his karting time, he won 101 races out of 131 starts.

2010 Ellinas joined the Formula racing and went for JTR in the British Formula Ford to. He won 3 of 25 races and was on the podium a total of 8 times. He finished fourth in the overall standings. In 2011 Ellinas started for Atech Reid GP in the British Formula Renault . Ellinas won 2 of 20 races and was on the podium 14 times. At the end of the season he finished third in the drivers' championship with 475 points. He was tied with runner-up Oliver Rowland , who had two more wins. Ellinas also started two races in the Northern European Formula Renault. He managed a victory. After the season Ellinas took part in tests of the GP3 series for Marussia Manor Racing . He achieved a best time.

For the 2012 season , Ellinas received a GP3 cockpit at Marussia Manor Racing. After scoring points in almost every race, his first GP3 ​​victory followed in the last race of the season. Ellinas was the only driver in his team to score points. He finished the season in eighth place. In 2013 Ellinas stayed with Marussia Manor Racing in the GP3 series. He started the season with a win in the main race at the Circuit de Catalunya and led the championship in the first five of eight events. Therefore, only one more podium finish during this period, he eventually lost the lead. Ellinas finally won the last race of the season on the Yas Marina Circuit . As the best driver in his racing team, he finished fourth overall. He also completed test drives for the Formula 1 racing team at Manor, Marussia .

In 2014 Ellinas was initially without a cockpit after a switch to Formula Renault 3.5 , in which he had participated in test drives, had not come about. For the second race weekend he finally entered the GP2 series for MP Motorsport . He finished his debut race in seventh place. It was used on three race weekends before losing its cockpit. Later in the season, he went to an event for Rapax to represent the injured Adrian Quaife-Hobbs . At the end of the season he finished 22nd overall.

In 2015 Ellinas switched to Strakka Racing in Formula Renault 3.5. He won one race each at Silverstone and one at the Nürburgring . He finished the season in fourth place overall and won internally with 135 to 79 points against Gustav Malja .
