Gustav Malja (born November 4, 1995 ) is a Swedish racing car driver . He has been competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship (formerly GP2 series) since 2015 .

Career

Malja began his motorsport career in karting in 2005 , in which he remained active until 2010. Among other things, he won the Swedish Kart Championship in the KF3 class in 2009. 2011 Malja switched to the single-seater racing and was a cockpit in the ADAC Formula Masters . He finished third once for Neuhauser Racing . He finished the overall standings in 13th place overall. In 2012 Malja stayed with Neuhauser Racing and won three races. He was on the podium 16 times in 23 races. With 307 to 329 points, he was defeated by Marvin Kirchhöfer at the end of the season and finished second overall. At the end of the year he also took part in an event of the BARC Formula Renault winter series.

In 2013 Malja moved to Josef Kaufmann Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . With an eighth place he achieved a point placement and finished the season in 20th place in the overall ranking. In addition, he drove for Josef Kaufmann Racing in several races in the northern European Formula Renault . He achieved two podium finishes and was 15th in the drivers' championship. In 2014 Malja stayed with Josef Kaufmann Racing in the two racing series. A podium finish in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup with a third place and ended the season in twelfth place overall. In the Northern European Formula Renault, Malja won two races and achieved fifth place in the overall standings.

In 2015 Malja Strakka Racing switched to Formula Renault 3.5 . With a second place as the best result, he finished ninth overall. Internally he was defeated by Tio Ellinas with 79 to 135 points. He also took part in one event of the European Formula 3 championship for EuroInternational , one for Trident and two race weekends in the GP2 series for Rapax . In 2016 , Malja competed as a regular driver in the GP2 series for Rapax. A second place in Spa-Francorchamps was his best result. He finished the championship in 13th place. In 2017 Malja stayed in the GP2 series, which had been renamed the FIA Formula 2 Championship , and switched to Racing Engineering .
