Racing engineering

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Racing Engineering is a Spanish racing team. The team has been competing in the GP2 series since 2005 .

history

The team was founded in 1999 by Alfonso de Orleans-Borbón and is still managed by him today. It is headquartered in Sanlúcar de Barrameda near Jerez de la Frontera and the Circuito de Jerez . The workshops and the team administration are located there. Transport, accommodation and press work are organized by offices in Switzerland.

Racing Engineering initially competed in Spanish Formula 3 . From 2001 to 2006 the team dominated this racing series, won the team championship every year and won the drivers’s championship three times with Ander Vilariño (2001), Ricardo Maurício (2003) and Borja García (2004).

In 2002 Racing Engineering also began a commitment in the World Series by Nissan . In the very first year the team won the team championship, drivers Franck Montagny and Justin Wilson finished second and fourth in the drivers’s championship. In 2003 Racing Engineering took second place in the overall standings, while Bas Leinders came third in the drivers' standings.

Javier Villa's racing car for the 2008 GP2 season

Racing Engineering has been part of the GP2 series , the successor to Formula 3000 , since 2005 . The team has so far been denied a victory in the team classification, but with Giorgio Pantano ( 2008 ) and Fabio Leimer ( 2013 ) two drivers were able to clinch the championship title. The team did not take part in the GP2 Asia series , which was held from 2008 to 2011 .
