NATO began his motorsport career in 1998 in karting , in which he was active until 2010. Among other things, he won the French KZ2 Championship in 2009 and the Monaco Kart Cup in the KZ2 class in 2010. In 2010 NATO made its debut in formula racing and took part in the F4 Eurocup 1.6 . He won two races and was runner-up behind Stoffel Vandoorne . In 2011, Nato switched to R-Ace GP and competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . With two third places, he achieved two podium finishes and finished the season as the best driver in his racing team in eleventh place. With 58, NATO had significantly more points than his two teammates Côme Ledogar and Pieter Schothorst , who together had 10 points. In addition, he took part in the first three events of the Northern European Formula Renault for R-Ace GP . He achieved a pole position and a second place. In 2012 NATO started for RC Formula . With one victory and a total of four podium finishes, he improved to fourth place in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. He was also active for his racing team in the Alpine Formula Renault . With four first and four second places, he was on the podium a total of eight times. With 214 to 217 points, he was just under Daniil Kwjat at the end of the season and was second overall.

In 2013 , NATO switched to DAMS in Formula Renault 3.5 . There he became a teammate of Kevin Magnussen . While Magnussen won the championship title with five wins, two fifth places were NATO's best results. He finished the season in 13th place. In 2014 NATO stayed with DAMS in Formula Renault 3.5. In Monaco , he scored his first victory starting from pole position. In Mogyoród he was victorious again. With 89 points he was seventh overall, while Carlos Sainz jr. again his teammate won the championship title.
In 2015 , NATO switched to the GP2 series at Arden International . He finished the season in 18th place overall. Internally, he prevailed against André Negrão with 20 to 5 points . In 2016 , NATO stayed in the GP2 series and started for Racing Engineering . He scored his first GP2 victory at the season opener in Barcelona . Another victory followed in the sprint race in Monza . With a total of five podium finishes, he improved to fifth place in the drivers' standings. In 2017 , NATO returned to Arden and stayed in the racing series, which had been renamed the FIA Formula 2 Championship in the winter .
