history
Formula 3000
Christian Horner was active in various racing series until 1997. In 1997 he founded the Arden International team with his father Garry and competed with this team in the International Formula 3000 Championship . As a driver, Christian Horner was initially active for the team himself. In the debut season, Horner was only able to qualify in four out of ten races, but he managed to score a point in the last race of the season. Arden finished 16th overall at the end of the season.
In 1998 Horner joined Kurt Mollekens and renamed the team Arden Racing . While Mollekens finished seventh overall with two second places, Horner remained without points. In the team ranking, Arden improved to seventh place. In 1999 Horner no longer got into the cockpit himself, but hired the pilots Wiktor Maslow and Marc Goossens . While Maslow was unable to qualify for any race, Goossens did qualify a few times, but he never crossed the finish line. After Arden had already received financial support from Russia in 1999, they started as Arden Team Russia in 2000 . Maslow stayed with the team and formed the driver duo for the season with Darren Manning . Manning managed to build on previous successes and gave the team two podium finishes. Maslow was able to qualify in a few races but never got past 15th place. In the team ranking, Arden took eighth place. They also competed in the Italian Formula 3000 in 1999 and 2000 and won the team championship in the second season.
In 2001 there were no changes in the driver pairing. While Manning had again taken a podium place, Maslow could not score again. In the team standings, they fell to ninth place this season. In 2002 the driver pairing changed and Björn Werdenheim and Tomáš Enge , who had finished third overall the previous year, were signed up. In the fourth race of the season on the A1-Ring , Enge scored the first victory for Arden. Since Werdenheim took second place, it was also the team's first double victory. In the further course of the season two more victories by Enge and one victory by Werdenheim followed. In addition, Arden prevailed against the other teams this season and won the team championship ahead of Coloni . Enge initially won the driver's championship title, but after the race on the Hungaroring he tested positive for cannabis and was therefore subsequently disqualified for doping. Finally, Enge was third in the championship.
In 2003 the team was renamed Arden International . Werdenheim stayed with Arden and Townsend Bell was signed as the second pilot . While Werdenheim dominated the season and did not finish in first or second place in just one race, Bell could not keep up with his teammate and eventual champion and had to be content with a podium finish. Arden also won the team championship this season. In 2004 Vitantonio Liuzzi and Robert Doornbos were engaged . An Arden driver also dominated Formula 3000 this season: Liuzzi won seven out of ten races and came second twice. Doornbos, who finished third at the end of the season, also won a race. Arden won the team championship for the third time in a row this season.
A1 Grand Prix
In the A1 Grand Prix , founded in 2005 , Arden competed in its debut season . Arden looked after the A1 Team Great Britain . Robbie Kerr was the driver for the first ten of eleven race weekends - he finished on the podium seven times. On the last race weekend in China, Kerr was replaced by Darren Manning . He also finished on the podium once, but neither driver managed to win. The team finished the season in third place overall. Following this season, the British team's Seatholder continued the series on their own. Arden did not continue his involvement in the A1GP with another team.
GP2 series
After Formula 3000 was discontinued at the end of 2004, the successor series GP2 started in 2005 . Heikki Kovalainen , champion of the World Series by Nissan 2004, and Nicolas Lapierre were signed as drivers . Although Kovalainen won as many races as the future champion Nico Rosberg , but since he scored fewer points, he had to be content with the runner-up title. Lapierre finished eleventh with a third place. Arden finished second in the team classification. After Kovalainen switched to Renault as a test driver in Formula 1 , Michael Ammermüller became Lapierre's new team-mate in 2006 . The season was different for the successful team than in previous years, because only Ammermüller could achieve a race victory. The best Arden driver at the end of the season was Lapierre, who was represented by Neel Jani on two race weekends . In the team classification, Arden took fourth place.
From 2007 the team started with a Dutch racing license. Bruno Senna , nephew of the late Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna , and Adrian Zaugg were signed as pilots. While Senna won a race and was third twice, Zaugg had to be content with a few points. For the last race of the season Zaugg was replaced by Filipe Albuquerque . In the team ranking, Arden deteriorated to seventh place overall.
As of 2008 , the newly founded GP2 Asia series was also part of the team. Sébastien Buemi played the entire season and Adam Khan was replaced by Yelmer Buurman after two races . Buemi won a race and was runner-up and Arden also took second place in the team classification. In the 2008 season of the European GP2 series, the season began with Buemi and Buurman, who was replaced by Luca Filippi in the middle of the season . Buemi achieved two victories and thus secured sixth place overall. Arden finished sixth in the drivers' championship.
In the GP2 Asia Series season 2008/2009 joined Luiz Razia of Arden International. The second cockpit was given to Edoardo Mortara from the third race weekend , who replaced Mika Mäki and Renger van der Zande , who took part in the first races. In the last race of the season, Razia scored the only victory for Arden, who finished sixth in the team standings. In the GP2 series, Mortara kept his cockpit and was reinforced by Sergio Pérez . The highlight of the season was a victory by Mortara in the second race of the season. Pérez achieved two podium finishes. Arden took eighth place in the team classification.
In the 2009/2010 season of the GP2 Asia series, Charles Pic and Rodolfo González began the season for Arden. For the second race weekend, GP2 veteran Javier Villa González replaced. In the European GP2 series, Pic and González competed again for Arden International in 2010 . Pic finished tenth overall with one win and third place, while González was 21st with two points. The team came in seventh overall.
From the season onwards Arden started again with a British license. In the GP2 Asia Series season 2011 , Josef Král and Jolyon Palmer competed for the team . The team achieved tenth place overall with a podium finish. For the GP2 series 2011 , as in the GP2 Asia series, Král and Palmer were the driver pairing. Král finished on the podium twice and finished 15th overall while Palmer didn't score any points and was 28th. Arden reached eleventh place overall in the team ranking.
In the 2012 GP2 series , Luiz Razia and Simon Trummer drove for Arden International. Razia won the main race in Sepang and three sprint races in Barcelona, Valencia and Silverstone and was runner-up. His team-mate Trummer drove into the points three times and was in 23rd place overall. With a total of four wins and nine podium finishes, the team was third in the overall standings with 226 points.
2013 was Johnny Cecotto jr. and Mitch Evans , who won the championship title in the GP3 series with Arden last year , signed on as drivers. Evans finished on the podium four times, finishing the season 14th, while Cecotto finished 16th without a podium finish. In the team standings, Arden finished the season in eighth place overall.
GP3 series
Since 2010 Arden International has also competed in the GP3 series . Since the team there is supported by Mark Webber , it operates under the Australian license under the name MW Arden . Michael Christensen , Miki Monras and Leonardo Cordeiro were signed up as drivers . Monras was the only one of the three drivers to take the points and was on the podium in two sprint races. At the end of the season Arden finished ninth and thus penultimate place in the team ranking.
For the 2011 season, three new drivers were committed. Mitch Evans , Simon Trummer and Lewis Williamson started for the team. Evans took the first win for MW Arden in the main race of the second race weekend. Later in the season, Williamson won again. The team improved to second in the team ranking.
While Evans stayed with MW Arden in the GP3 series, Trummer rose within the team to the GP2 series. Williamson initially received no cockpit. New signings for the 2012 season were David Fumanelli and Matias Laine . Evans won the championship title with three wins and three more podium guns that season. In the team standings, Arden came second again.
In 2013 the team started with a completely new driver line-up: Carlos Sainz jr. , Robert Vişoiu and Daniil Kwjat . Rookie Kwjat won the season in the penultimate race of the season, after he had not even held the lead in the championship before. The team took second place in the team classification for the third time in a row.
Formula Renault 3.5
In cooperation with Caterham , Arden competed as Arden Caterham in the Formula Renault 3.5 series from the 2012 season . At start of the season was Alexander Rossi , Formula 1 test driver for Caterham , and Lewis Williamson , best driver of MW Arden in the GP3 Series in 2011, obliged. In the third race of the season, Rossi secured the team's first podium with a third place. Williamson was replaced by António Félix da Costa after the third race weekend . Félix da Costa has won four times in the last five races and was fourth overall. He clearly beat his team-mate Rossi, who had driven five races more, with 166 to 63 points. In the team standings, Arden Caterham immediately secured second place.
In 2013 Félix da Costa stayed as a driver. His new team-mate became Pietro Fantin . Félix da Costa again clearly prevailed within the team. While he was third overall, Fantin only finished 21st. In the team ranking, the team deteriorated to fourth.
