Steijn Schothorst

Steijn Schothorst (born October 14, 1994 ) is a Dutch automobile racing driver . He has been part of the GP3 series since 2016 .

Career

Schothorst began his motorsport career in karting . In 2010 he drove in touring car racing and finished tenth in the Formido Swift Cup . In 2011 he switched to the single-seater racing and competed in several Formula Ford championships.

In 2012 Schothorst received a cockpit at MP Motorsport in the Northern European Formula Renault . He won two races and was fifth in the drivers' championship. In addition, he contested several races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup for MP Motorsport and Fortec Motorsport . In early 2013 Schothorst took part in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand for M2 Competition . While his teammate Nick Cassidy won the championship, Schothorst finished fourth overall with a win. Schothorst then drove for Josef Kaufmann Racing in Formula Renault championships. In the Eurocup he reached 14th place overall with a win. In the Northern European Formula Renault he did not contest all races and was again fifth in the drivers' championship with three wins. At the beginning of 2014 Schothorst started again for M2 Competition in the Toyota Racing Series. With two wins, he was fifth overall. In the further course of the season Schothorst drove for MP Motorsport in Formula Renault championships. He was 17th in the Eurocup. In the Northern European Formula Renault, he improved to fourth championship place. He also took part in an event in Formula Acceleration 1 and came second in the Zandvoort Masters .

In 2015 Schothorst switched to GT racing and drove for Equipe Verschuur in the Renault Sport Trophy . In the elite class he won three races and finished second behind Andrea Pizzitola with 138 to 140 points . In the Endurance Trophy he started with his father Jeroen and finished 14th in the ranking.

In 2016 Schothorst returned to formula racing. For Campos Racing he competed in the GP3 series . Two fifth places were his best results. As the best driver of his team, he finished 13th overall. He also made guest appearances in the Renault Sport Trophy. Schothorst switched to Arden International for the 2017 GP3 series .

Personal

Schothorst comes from a racing family. His father Jeroen, his brother Pieter and his cousin Bas are also automobile racing drivers.
