Max Eggert

Max Eggert (* 1883 ; † December 2, 1947 in Bernburg ) was a German local politician of the NSDAP . From 1933 to 1945 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Bernburg.

Career

After losing to Friedrich Gothe in Bernburg in the 1931 election , he became mayor of Leopoldshall . After Gothe's temporary retirement in 1933, Eggert took over the post of Lord Mayor in Bernburg as a member of the NSDAP, which he had joined on May 1, 1933 .

During his tenure, in November 1940, the Bernburg State Sanatorium and Nursing Home was set up and operated in the Bernburg Killing Center, where between 1940 and 1943 over 14,000 people were gassed as part of the euthanasia programs " Aktion T4 " and " Aktion 14f13 " .

After the end of the Second World War , he committed suicide while in custody.
