Friedrich Gothe

Friedrich Gothe (* 1872 ; † 1951 ) was a German architect , construction clerk for the Duchy of Anhalt and local politician . From 1919 to 1933 he was mayor of the city of Bernburg (Saale) .

Career

At the beginning of the 20th century he made a name for himself as an architect. His buildings include the Friederiken-Gymnasium in Bernburg (1906–1909) and the Martinskirche in Köthen (1912–1914), now used as a youth club . He was based in Köthen and was already involved in local politics as the “First City Councilor”.

In 1919 he was elected mayor of Bernburg. Usually only administrative lawyers came to such a municipal top office, the choice of a construction official - that is, a "technician" - received national attention. In the re-election in 1931 he was successful against Max Eggert , who replaced him as a member of the NSDAP in 1933 after Gothe was put into temporary retirement.
