Nick Cassidy

Nick Cassidy (born August 19, 1994 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand automobile racing driver . He won the overall classification of the Toyota Racing Series in 2012 and 2013 . In 2015 he won the Japanese Formula 3 championship . In 2016 he drove in the Super GT and the European Formula 3 championship . In 2019 Cassidy won the Japanese Super Formula Championship.

Career

Cassidy began his motorsport career at the age of six in karting , where he was active until 2010. Cassidy also took part in speedway races in a midget car at the age of eight . He remained active in the midget car sport until 2011 and won the overall ranking of the Western Springs Speedway in 2010 .

In 2008, Cassidy made her debut in formula racing . He immediately won the Manfield Formula First winter series . He then competed in New Zealand's Formula First in the 2008/2009 season and became the best rookie runner-up. Cassidy then took part in six races in the New Zealand Formula Ford winter series. He won three races. In the 2009/2010 season, Cassidy competed in New Zealand's Formula Ford. He won 8 out of 18 races and was runner-up again as the best rookie. He also returned to New Zealand's Formula First for three races that season, winning one race. In 2010, Cassidy took part in three races of the Australian Formula Ford and was 15th in the drivers' standings with a podium finish.

In 2011 Cassidy initially competed for Giles Motorsport in the Toyota Racing Series , New Zealand's highest monoposto series. After five podium finishes, he won two out of three races on the last race weekend. With 805 to 973 points he was defeated by his teammate Mitch Evans and became runner-up. Again he was the best rookie. Then Cassidy competed in various racing series outside New Zealand and drove for the first time in Europe. First he took part in two races of the Australian Formula Ford, where he achieved third place. In autumn he made his debut in Europe and took part in an ADAC Formula Masters event , as well as in a Formula Abarth racing weekend . He scored points in both series. He then made his debut in Australian touring car racing in the Fujitsu V8 ​​Supercar Series . He took part in five races and finished 31st in the drivers' championship with a tenth place as the best result.

In 2012 , Cassidy began the season again in the Toyota Racing Series, where he again received a cockpit at Giles Motorsport. He won five races, including the New Zealand Grand Prix , and stood on the podium a total of ten times. He finished every race within the first eight. With 914 to 738 points, he won the championship ahead of his teammate Hannes van Asseldonk . Cassidy then planned to take part in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup with Fortec Motorsport . After the first three events, he lost his cockpit. Later in the year he took part in two races in the V8SuperTourer , a New Zealand touring car series. In doing so, he scored a victory. In 2013 , Cassidy again participated in the Toyota Racing Series at the beginning of the year. This time he started for M2 Competition . Cassidy won two races and was on the podium 11 times in 15 races. With 915 to 803 points he prevailed against his teammate Alex Lynn . Subsequently, Cassidy again found no permanent involvement in a racing series. He made two guest starts in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and six guest starts in the European Formula 3 championship .

In the winter of 2013/14, Cassidy took part in four races in the New Zealand sports car series. He won three races. In early 2014 , Cassidy returned to the Toyota Racing Series for an event. He won a race with Neale Motorsport . He then contested the first five of seven events of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup for Koiranen GP . With a fifth place as the best result, he was 18th in the drivers' championship. He also took part in an Alpine Formula Renault race for China BRT by JCS . In the fall, Cassidy took part in two events of the European Formula 3 Championship and the Macau Grand Prix for Threebond with T-Sport . At the Macau Grand Prix he reached third place.

In the winter of 2014/15, Cassidy drove touring car races in the Toyota Finance 86 Championship . He won three races and was eleventh overall. He then received a cockpit for the Japanese Formula 3 championship in 2015 with Toyota-supported Petronas Team TOM’S . Cassidy won the championship with seven wins. With 129 to 113 points he prevailed against his teammate Kenta Yamashita . He also took part in a Super GT race in Japan . In addition, Cassidy took part in two European Formula 3 championship events for the Prema Powerteam . He achieved two podium placements. Cassidy was also accepted into the BMW funding program in 2015 .

In 2016 Cassidy completed a dual program. For the Lexus Team TOM'S he formed a driver team with Daisuke Itō in the Super GT. He also drove for the Prema Powerteam in the European Formula 3 championship in 2016 . He won a race and was on the podium eight times. He finished the season in fourth place in the Drivers' Championship while teammate Lance Stroll won the championship.

In 2018 and 2019 Cassidy competed in the Japanese Super Formula and finished the seasons as runner-up and as champion.
