Nobuharu Matsushita
Nobuharu Matsushita ( Japanese 松下 信 治 , Matsushita Nobuharu ; born October 13, 1993 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese automobile racing driver . He won the Japanese Formula 3 championship in 2014 . He has been competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship (formerly GP2 series) since 2015 .
Career
Matsushita began his motorsport career in karting in 2005 , where he remained active until 2010. In 2011 he switched to formula racing . He started five of six events in the Formula Pilota China for Super License . With a win, he finished the drivers' championship in fourth place. In 2012 Matsushita competed in the Japanese Formula Challenge . He won five out of twelve races and was on the podium ten times. At the end of the season he was tied with Ryō Hirakawa . Because Matsushita had better placements, he won the championship.
In 2013 Matsushita switched to the Japanese Formula 3 championship for HFDP Racing . He was third four times and second once. He did not succeed in victory. He finished the season in fifth place. In 2014 Matsushita contested his second season in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship for HFDP Racing. He won six races and decided the championship with 102 to 90 points against Kenta Yamashita for himself.
In 2015 , thanks to support from Honda , Matsushita switched to the GP2 series in Europe . He received a cockpit at ART Grand Prix . At the sprint race in Spielberg , he achieved his first podium finish with third place. In Mogyoród he won the sprint race and achieved his first GP2 victory. While his team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne dominated the championship with 341.5 points, Matsushita finished his debut season with 68.5 points in ninth place overall. In the 2015/16 winter season he took part in an event of the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 . He got two victories. In 2016 , Matsushita stayed in the GP2 series at ART Grand Prix and also acted as Formula 1 test driver for McLaren . He won the sprint race in Monaco . After being involved in incidents as a leader in three restarts at the sprint race in Baku, he was banned from the next event. Matsushita finished the season in eleventh place. With 92 to 159 points he was defeated by his team-mate Sergei Sirotkin . In 2017 Matsushita completed his third season for ART Grand Prix in the GP2 series, which was renamed the FIA Formula 2 Championship in winter .
