The 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship was the third season of the FIA Formula 2 Championship as an FIA Championship and the fifteenth season of the racing series (including the years as a GP2 series ) as a whole. It comprised a total of 24 races and rose from March 30th to December 1st. Nyck de Vries won the drivers' championship with 266 points, DAMS won the team championship for the first time.
The season was overshadowed by the death of Frenchman Anthoine Hubert at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps ; The American Juan Manuel Correa was also involved in the fatal accident . Correa survived with multiple leg injuries and a minor spinal injury and has been in rehabilitation ever since. Hubert is the first to be killed in the Formula 2 class since Henry Surtees in 2009.

- After the death of Anthoine Hubert , Arden decided not to award the number 19 for the rest of the season out of respect for the deceased Frenchman. Consequently, his substitute Artyom Markelow drove with the number 22.
Changes in the teams
- The Russian Time project gave up its starting position to UNI-Virtuosi Racing , which had been running the team since 2015.
Racing calendar
In 2019, twelve race weekends were held. All events took place in connection with the Formula 1 Grand Prix races. There were no changes compared to the previous year.
With the exception of the event in Monaco (main race on Friday and sprint races on Saturday), all main races took place on Saturdays and all sprint races on Sunday.
- The main race in Spa-Francorchamps was canceled after a serious accident at the exit of the Raidillon de l'Eau Rouge and the sprint race was canceled.
Rating
Point system
In the main race (HAU), the first ten of the race get 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 or 1 point (s). In the sprint race (SPR), the first eight of the race receive 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 or 1 point (s). In addition, the winner of the qualifying, who starts from pole position in the main race, receives four points. The driver who achieves the fastest lap of the first ten classified drivers receives two points.
