Jordan King
Jordan King (born February 26, 1994 in Warwick ) is a British automobile racing driver . He competed in the European Formula 3 championship in 2013 and 2014 . In 2013 he became British Formula 3 champion . From 2015 to 2019 (with an interruption at the IndyCars 2018) he started in the FIA Formula 2 Championship (formerly GP2 series).
Career
King began his motorsport career in karting in 2005 , where he was active until 2010. Among other things, he was Asian-Pacific KF3 master in 2009 . In 2010 he also made his formula racing debut at the season finale of the Formula Palmer Audi . King took pole position straight away and finished second in one race. In the overall ranking he was 23rd. He then moved to Manor Competition and took part in the British Formula Renault Winter Cup. He finished this in 15th place in the overall ranking.
In 2011 he started for Manor Competition in the British Formula Renault. With a second place he achieved the best placement of his racing team in the season. He finished the season on the eighth championship course. He then competed for Manor Competition in the winter series. In this he was twelfth. In 2011 King also took part in six races in the FIA Formula 2 Championship . He became the youngest driver in this category to date. He completed his first Formula 2 test drive at the end of 2009. King scored points in four of these races, and fifth was his best result. At the end of the season he was 14th overall. In addition, he joined the Northern European Formula Renault in the second half of the season , where he started for MP Motorsport . With a second place as the best result and a total of four podium finishes, he was tenth in the drivers' championship. At the beginning of 2012 , King competed for M2 Competition in the Toyota Racing Series , New Zealand's highest monoposto racing series . He won a race and was on the podium four times. At the end of the season he was fifth in the overall standings. King then competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup for Manor MP Motorsport , a cooperation between Manor Competition and MP Motorsport . With a third place as the best placement, he finished the season in 13th place overall. In addition, King took part in the Northern European Formula Renault for Manor MP Motorsport. He won a race and was on the podium a total of nine times. With 316 to 376 points he was defeated by Jake Dennis and became runner-up.
In 2013 , King moved to Carlin in the European Formula 3 championship . With four podium finishes, King finished sixth in the drivers' standings. He was thus defeated by his team mate Harry Tincknell , who finished fifth overall with a race win. In addition, King took part in the British Formula 3 Championship for Carlin in 2013 . With four wins and a total of eight podium finishes in twelve races, he decided the title for himself. With 176 to 135 points he prevailed against Antonio Giovinazzi . In 2014 , King stayed with Carlin in the European Formula 3 championship. King finished second four times and third three times. In the overall classification he reached seventh place.
In 2015 King switched to Racing Engineering in the GP2 series . With a second place as the best result, he was twelfth in the drivers' championship. Internally he was defeated by his teammate Alexander Rossi with 60 to 181.5 points. In 2016 King completed his second GP2 season for Racing Engineering. Like his team-mate Norman Nato , he won two races. In the overall classification he improved to seventh place. In 2017 , King joined MP Motorsport in the championship that had been renamed the FIA Formula 2 Championship in the winter . He finished the season in eleventh. His best result was fourth place.
In 2018 he switched to the American IndyCar Series for Ed Carpenter Racing . There he only drove on the circuits in his first season. In his very first race in St. Petersburg he was able to collect leading laps. He finished the race in 21st place. In Toronto , he was again able to collect leadership kilometers. He finished the season as fourth-best rookie in 22nd place overall. His best result was an 11th place in Toronto.
In the 2019 season he only drove the Indianapolis 500 for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing . He finished it in 24th place. He also competed for Jackie Chan DC Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . There he dropped out after completing 199 laps. King returned to Formula 2 with his previous team, MP Motorsport, in 2019 . He finished two races on the podium and finished ninth overall. He did not take part in the races in Monaco in order to be able to start at the Indianapolis 500.
