The Moscow Raceway is a motorsport racetrack near Wolokolamsk around 80 kilometers northwest of the Russian capital Moscow . It opened in 2012 and that year hosted the Superbike World Championship and the World Series by Renault .

Planning and construction

In September 2008, planning began for a permanently used motorsport racetrack in Russia with the aim of hosting international racing series such as Formula 1 or DTM . The architect of the project is the Aachen architect Hermann Tilke . On 1 October the same year the symbolic was groundbreaking from the Formula 1 World Championship runner in 2001 , David Coulthard , set at the track. In 2009, the Formula 1 project was in favor of a new project in Sochi on the part of Bernie Ecclestone dropped.

The track has been classified in the FIA category 1T and FIM A and can therefore be used as a venue for all racing series.

route

The total length of the route is 4.070 kilometers. The width varies between twelve and 21 meters, the start-finish straight is 15 meters. The length of the back straight that leads to the start-finish is one kilometer. The maximum difference in altitude is 22 meters. In total, races can be held on 17 different layouts on the track . The length varies between about 1.3 and four kilometers.
