The Shanghai Tianma Circuit is the fourth permanent race track in China and is located in the Songjiang district of Shanghai . Due to its location on the Yangtze River Delta , the route has an extremely large catchment area of several megacities. It's part of a resort that also includes recreational facilities, proving grounds and an off-road course.
The track was opened in 2004 and approved for FIA level III. It has 14 curves over a length of only 2.1 km and is driven counter-clockwise. Due to the short length of the track and many tight corners, the circuit is better suited for motorcycles, but a World Touring Car Championship race was held there in 2011 .
