The Circuito da Boavista is a temporary motorsport racing track in the Boavista district of the Portuguese port city of Porto . The 4.7 km long street circuit will be set up on closed roads directly on the Atlantic Ocean and must be driven counter-clockwise.
history
In 1958 and 1960 , the Portuguese Grand Prix was held at the Circuito da Boavista as a run to the World Automobile Championship . The route length was 7.4 km.
Similar to the route in Macau , the course ran after the start in the port area over tram tracks and cobblestones with a combination of longer straights and various curves between the canyons.
At the first Grand Prix, Stirling Moss won the wet track on Vanwall , two years later Jack Brabham with a Cooper-Climax , who won the world championship with this victory.
In addition to the Grand Prix at the Circuito da Boavista, other Formula 1 races were held in Portugal on the Circuito de Monsanto (1959) and on the Circuito do Estoril (1984-1996).
In 2007 the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) was a guest at the redesigned Circuito da Boavista. This means that after 47 years, world championship races were held in Porto again. In 2009 and 2011 the WTCC also made a guest appearance on this route.
