Diesel vehicles

From the seventh round in Anderstorp, Sweden, 2 diesel- powered Seat Leon will also be involved in the championship, driven by Jordi Gené and Yvan Muller . When they first appeared, these cars were a little slower in qualifying than the "normal" Seats with petrol engines, although the diesel vehicles are 30 kg heavier. In the race itself they had no chance except for a sixth place for Muller in the first run. At the following race in Oschersleben, Saxony-Anhalt, Muller won the first of the two races, which is the first ever victory for a diesel-powered vehicle in an official world championship. In the second race, Gené was third, Muller fifth.
